919/900RR Engine Swap

Hi folks,

Did a search and didn't see this brought up already so I thought I'd give it a go. I know the 919 has a detuned 900RR fireblade engine in it, but if I wanted to get more high end crank out of my 2002 919 is it possible to but in a 900RR engine in it? Would I need to change the throttle body as well, or could I just have the FI remapped for the new gearing? Am I way off base here?

Re: 919/900RR Engine Swap

as far as I know the cbr900rr has carbs and the 919 is fuel injected I also have a matt black 02 919 that i just finished with a Akropovic Megaphone exhuast. I think that if your going to put in the effort then i would use a 929 or a 954 engine. I know how you feel because I would prefer a 900 engine gear towards higher Rpms. But i was told by my performance shop that new engine mounts would have to be prefabed. and the electrics would have to be heavly rearanged. good luck though

Re: 919/900RR Engine Swap

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I had been curious and I don't know ANYTHING about the 900RR so I thought I'd ask, but since I'm going to change up the suspension anyway, if I have to change the FI, and Electrical with the Engine all I REALLY have left from the 919 is the frame. LOL, at that point maybe I should just wonder if I got the right bike. I like my 919 how it is.

Re: 919/900RR Engine Swap

yeah if i was you I would just focus on the suspension my next project is a 954 front end with driven carbon fiber handlebars because an engine swap is more than just work it throws off the geometery of the the bike because the tranny is higher on the engine hence your knees will be higer and more uncomfortable. sorry for the spelling but the beer is good lol. my tactic is making a lighter and better handling bike which has always been hondas benchmark. here is a list of mods that you might want to look into k.

1. Forged wheels like the ones on ducati's
2. Driven carbon fiber handlebars the retail for about $115.00 google it
3. lighter gauges look up motogadget and look for the mini's you'll see!
4. Lighter exhuast I went crazy nd attached a Akropovic megaphone exhaust total weight loss 19lbs hp gain 7-10 hp
5. vfr rear swingarm I don't know what the weight advantage is just looks cool

good luck mike ps send pic's to chiefofmasters@gmail.com
and I'll send some back

Re: 919/900RR Engine Swap

I've seen this brought up on another forum. It'd be a heck of a lot of work, and you would probably be better off stripping down a full-faired bike to get what you want. It can be a challenge to get the lines of a 919 out of a 954/929/insertrandomnumbershere, but the other bikes were designed for more hard core riding. The lack of a more tuneable suspension and 'weak' chassis would make the effort of throwing a bigger/badder engine into a 919 not worth your time in my opinion. If you just want a little more bang for a few more bucks, go with a wet nitrous system.
