CB919 gear change question

Hello everyone, new to the the site. I have a 04 CB919 (that I just love)!!!
I changed the front sprocket down 1 and the rear up 1. I realy like the power range it has much better now. Stock gearing was a bit tall for me. I don't need to go 170mph But my question is, did this though off my speedometer reading? or is it still correct? I know I'm turning more RPM's now. Just didn't know if my speed display is right?
Thanks for any help with this!

I'll have to check when i get to the house. I know I droped 1 in the front and added 1 for the rear.

Re: CB919 gear change question

Speedos are inaccurate i.e. they read over your real speed (gets higher as you go faster) so when your doing 70MPH, you may only be doing 64/66MPH etc.

Not sure what way your speedo would have gone (could see by using GPS etc) but I would invest in a Speedo Healer if it matters to you.

I thought the 919's could only do 140MPH

Hmmmm. When I read the reviews regarding the 919, they said the actual stop speed was 138/140MPH...

Might have to see what she can do - need to find an airstrip.

Re: CB919 gear change question

Stock chain on her (530). They will go very fast (big gears) if you can hang on and disable Rev limtier and fuel pump shut down. There's an excel spred sheet (formulas) that will give you your RPM/Speed with any gear change that I have, just didn't know if it was right? I though that the gear change would make my speedometer read faster that I'm really going??? Good idea on the GPS! I'll try that. Put it on the bike and see what it said I'm doing.
Thanks guy's!!!!

Re: CB919 gear change question

i have a 2002 honda 919, i have had the needle on 145, i know i don't have stock gears in it, but i'm not sure what it is, i had it figured out but i don't remember. but i really think it would end up topping out around 150, and thats if you can hang on that long, at that speed the wind is almost unbearable.

Re: CB919 gear change question

this weekend I had my 919 some where over 150 on a slight downhill grade i was hugging close to the tank (no wind shild) full throttle all stock and when i let off and looked it was dropping fast right by 150 so im not sure where it was but yea the wind is real bad. Im not sure that the spedo is right on it at all I think when im doing 90 its closer to just over 80? so at 155 I would guess 140ish or slower. idk

Re: CB919 gear change question

If your running 15/44 then your speedometer is off by about 11%, I ran a 15/45 setup for a while, and now im back to 16/45.. You are correct that stock is 15/43/

Yes sir you are correct that they do not get much above 140 actual speed. With stock gearing the spread sheet says that 151 is attainable at redline, but thats not realistic off of a dyno. I have got mine to indicate 159, but I have the spread sheet for gearing to show what the actual speed would be.

GEAR 1 2 3 4 5 6
RPM MPH MPH MPH MPH MPH MPH
4,000 24 33 41 48 54 58
5,000 30 41 52 60 67 73
6,000 36 49 62 72 81 88
7,000 42 58 72 84 94 102
8,000 48 66 82 96 107 117
9,000 54 74 93 108 121 131
9,500
57 78 98 114 128 139
10,000 60 82 103 120 134 146
11,000 65 91 113 133 148 160

Red line is 9500 rpms and this chart is for your 15/44 setups based on circumference of the stock tires as well as gear ratios through the gears.
