Potential problems with buying a new 07 919?

Hi all - first post here. I've been looking for a naked bike, and really like the 919. I would buy used if I could find a good one nearby, but there don't seem to be many on the market. A nearby dealer has a new 07 for $7k. Are there any problems that the bike might have from sitting in a crate or showroom for that long? I know it would still have a one year warranty, but I'd rather have a little more reassurance that the buy should be good as new.

Thanks

domingo3,

The Honda 919 is a superb bike. If the bike has been sitting in a crate or showroom without fluids, it will have no issues. I've purchased bikes that were in the crate for several years and never had any problems at all. Hope that helps..

BMWrider - What brings you here? I had an R850R for 6 years, but I'm looking for something with less maintenance cost and a little more performance.

Anybody know what a good price would be for a new 07 919? I don't want to overpay for it. Like I said, I'd go for a used one, too, but they're not so easy to find for sale...

The tyres may get affected over time (if they are sat in one place)... other than that I doubt anything really would happen.

This is a good advantage on getting your price lower due to it being sat there for so long - the thing they want to do is shift stock asap - esp old stock. Try and get a few things thrown in.

Well how much are the used ones going for? That would give you the best indication.

Re: Potential problems with buying a new 07 919?

You can get a used 919 with a few mods for around $4000, and the new ones are $7K+, but the newest ones are 07(last year of production) They have been sitting for a while, but still great bikes. The other things that was mentioned is the tires. The stock tires on a 919 suck and a few guys have bought their 07s in 2009, and their tires were made in 2005. I strongly suggest working some new tires into your deal. In addition get a set of renthal bars to reduce handlebar vibrations at speeds.

Overall a great bike. I have loved every minute of my 919 for the last 14 months and 17k miles. My bike is at 31k and my friends 919 is at 42k, and neither of us have any problems. My valves are even still in spec.

Not to hijack the thread, but what mods have the members here added to their 919?

tires are the only thing to really even think about.. other than that the only thing you should worry about is how pissed the wife is gonna be when you don't come home very often.. haha..

Re: Potential problems with buying a new 07 919?

Dang! An 07 for $7000? Geez, I sure got ripped off! I paid $8330 out the door for my 07, back in November of 08. And others were right: the tires suck and the bars vibrate more than any bike I've EVER owned or rode!!! But you can't poor sand in them or foam insulation or any of the other tricks the pros have mentioned. They have a plug in the ends. I totally LOVE my 919!!! I just got it last year right before Thanksgiving and already have over 18,000 miles on it!

As for mods, I have quite a few but not as many as most riders. I have a PC3USB, Yoshimura stainless steel slip-ons, catless Y-Pipe off earlier models, and a K&N air filter. Newest/current tires are Diablo Rosso's. Have Motovation frame sliders (do NOT get Sato's!!!).
