It's a 1 pint breather catch can for the crankcase vent. The stock system has the A/F mixture polluting the oil and the oil screwing up the intakes, so the airbox is sealed (remember, it's a 30 liter type 2 system ala Thorsten and other than the 2 fuel hoses and the electrical connector, there aren't any other inlets/outlets). It also keeps the crankcase from pressurizing.
(on another subject, man does U4 taste nasty . . .  )

WOW Abtech, that RC looks great! Now, remeber what you said to me back when I had the "929"... " you have set the standard, now you must keep it looking that nice when you take it to the group ride!"
Your very welcome on the fairing stay! Enjoy!
Looks great!  |

The real truth of the matter is if he had an impeccably clean garage floor, just like mine, (yeah right) there would not be the dirt strip down the center making it look like chicken strips on the sides.
I know that you know that HD, and that we both know abtech's abilities, but I just had to stir up the beginners around here. since an unnamed administrater got me yesterday, I just had to stir the pot today! |

| Re: Pretty much ready . . . That really is a beautiful bike abtech! I don't think I would have the guts to risk taking it out on the racetrack myself, because it is a piece of art. Well done!
~~~~~~~~~
Directed to noone in particular. Unless you have had bad feelings about anything I've said in this thread, there is no reason to continue reading. I just feel the need to post this.
Reviewing my posts and reflecting upon some thoughts, I feel that I need to clarify some things, as I do not want to risk that any fellow .org members might be incensed, or even mildly inflamed over any of my comments.
Chicken strips and garage cleanliness first:
I know that abtech has been racing for a long time. I know that he is not a beginner. I know that he can scrub a tire to the edge and beyond. I respect those abilities, and admire same, as I sure as h*** can't do that regularly.
I'll wager that abtech's garage is a lot cleaner than mine, because I have the dirtiest garage floor that I know of. Since I have the same dirt stripe, as seen in his photo, down the center of my tire whenever I wheel the bike into or out of my garage, I ASSUMED everyone did as well. Seeing the original picture of the rear tire triggered my funny bone, and that was all it was.
Excitement and sarcasm second:
I've had to go anywhere for the past 5.5 MONTHS in a cage. Recently, weather has been kind enough for me to get the 954 on the road twice. Heaven!!! I got so excited I bought my wife a Silver Wing last week. Parked Motorcycle Syndrome, for those privileged enough to never have experienced it, is just as bad as PMS. Trust me on this. PMS for 5.5 months...well, you figure it out.
I truly appreciate good sarcasm, and general humor for that matter. It is such a part of my life that it is second nature to me, and I naturally ASSUME everyone else appreciates as well.
Assumptions third:
Everyone knows what ASSUME really means. I'm guilty.
Reasons for this post:
Due to the lack of human interaction (facial expression, vocal tones etc., the nuances of what works in real life don't often work when typed. I understand that, and I may have stepped on some toes unintentionally. For that, I am truly sorry. The major reason for this post is to offer my apology to anyone reading my words who have taken offense. None was meant.
(feels like 45....Unless you're going 140 MPH. Then it feels....invigorating I did a track day last fall at these temps.. not something I want to repeat just yet.)
I can't imagine...
| Re: Pretty much ready . . . First of all, Maxib, I took it as a well intentioned jab, nothing more, nothing less. As everyone else may notice, I couldn't express the smile I had when I posted the "rebuttal" photo. Believe me, it's all good
As for Grattan today, it was flat out cold and began raining in earnest during my last session. I brought everything home in case the weather goes on it's ass tomorrow, so I don't have to deadhead to the track only to retrieve everything.
The bike seems to be running great with no surprises. I would wager it is quite a bit faster than it was last year due to the airbox, new fuel and the diet over the winter. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to line up any dyno time yet, so I did some reverse engineering to create a map based on a best guess with the changes vs the last dyno created map (which is probably like the proverbial wish in one hand and $hit in the other), so until then I am flying on instruments . . . |
