Fan removal?

I've run into several folks who have removed one or both fans from the radiators in effort to help airflow and aid cooling.

I'm kind of leaning towards removing one fan and see if it helps. I'm a little more than shy about removing both, I just don't like that idea at all...

Does anyone have any caveats to removing a fan? I'm worried that I may short something by not having both fans plugged into the harness or something else goofy like that.

Does anyone have any info about adding a manual fan switch? I've heard/read that some have done that as well....

Bloomin thing is hot! I don't care if I boil, but I do care if the bike does.

Thanks.

Re: Fan removal?

If you get stuck in traffic and have to idle the bike for an extended period of time, you might get yourself in trouble. Removing the fan for the track is different.

Don't take 'em off if you ride on the street. It runs hot as it is. I run a manual switch, but it was a PITA to get to the wiring.

Re: Fan removal?

Do you happen to have instructions for the manual switch? Sounds like it was a bit of a pita to get done. Do you find that you can keep it running cool enough to your satisfaction with just the fan?

I was thinking of only removing one fan to see if I could reduce the overall temp that it runs at. I'm assuming (because my superhawk is setup this way) that the gain of one radiator free of the fan/shroud will get more air and thusly help the bike run cooler when moving. Traffic is still a concern, defenitly, which is what the manual switch would help with.

Any other folks with thoughts/ideas?

Re: Fan removal?

Dont remove the fan.

If anything, use more of a water solution in your radiator and add some Waterwetter. (sp)

I'm gonna try the water wetter route next oil change. Speaking of which, anybody got a tip on the plastic plugs that hold the fairings together at the bottom?? I about tore my fingers to pieces trying to get them out.

So much for 10min oil changes like on the `chicken...

I used to just put the bike on front and rear stands and remove lowers as one piece, not separating them. A lot less hassle IMHO.

Re: Fan removal?

Sorry, can't remember details. The sensor is under the throttle bodies. Think I got the diagram off Rouges.
