| FINALLY, I found the problem with overheating! ^_^ Soft Rev mod
Wasn't good for my bike. I think that's what caused my over heating. After removing the cable things are back to normal such as a regular temperature readout on my LED. With Soft Rev it *never* showed the temperature until the engine got to really hot at 250+ degrees and started flashing - because that's enough to cause engine damage.
Don't know if this is true but someone mentioned California bikes are ill equipped for the Soft Rev mod since their pin-out is different because of emissions, though the wiring looked the same to me.

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up Me thinks you jumped the wrong wire. I did it with no ill effects and will do it to my next RC.

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up 9er - That's a possibility although I triple checked it against http://www.rc51.org/b2a15.htm
Tornado - Check the link above. Basically you tap one wire into another wire and it allows the bike to rev a bit higher (hard limit) instead of being cut off by the soft limiter. Bottom line, it allows some additional RPM at the top.

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up Man that's beat. I have had no issues with mine at all. Sorry that it turned out to be a bad thing. I remember my wiring harness to be slightly different...but I worked it out. |

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up Sounds like a short or an open ground somewhere, as there isn't anything in the harness modification that would affect the temp gauge from reading until it went WFO. I would double check everything and then check it again . . . |

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up I think the left fan is not coming on. As far as I know, at 220 degrees the fans are supposed to come on and when I pulled over at 230 degrees I felt the air on the right side, but not the left. I'll have to double check. When I dropped the bike earlier this year it was on the left side, so maybe something came unplugged. The only thing is when it happened and I rode it home it never over heated, it was only after I did the soft rev, flapper valve, and put in a Power Commander IIIr. The PCIIIr had the Sato map (verified) but I even tried "Stock" but had the same results. The fan issue is something I discovered today but I'll have to test through that again and make sure I was correct.

The best way to resolve this (not the way described in the manual) is to open the radiator cap, start the engine and then lean the bike as far as practical over to one side for several seconds and then lean it over to the other side. If there is air in the system it should burp out through the open filler neck. This may get messy especially if you are running coolant, so do this where spilled coolant won't be a problem. Once you have burped the system, top off the coolant and get the fan problem fixed. |

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up Thanks guys. When I checked to see if air was blowing out the right side I was able to feel some air circulation and could touch the vent. When I went to feel the left side I wasn't feeling anything and barely touched the vent and that **** was HOT! That's why I think it could be the fan. Again, this is the same side that I took down when I went to the ground. I'm going to take off the fairing, start the bike, and see if that fan kicks on. I'll keep my status updated.

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up I would take all the plastic off...well, all the side plastic off...and do a idle check. Just like abtech said...there could be an air bubble. with all the plastic off it should be quick to find out WTF the fan is doing. |

| Re: Soft Rev mod jacked me up Last night I took the left/right fairings off and ran the bike idle until it reached 220 degrees. The right fan kicked on but the left fan did not. I also replaced the fuse (just in case) but that was not the issue. Not sure what happened. At least I know what the issue is and can work on resolving it. It's been a pain in the ass trying to figure it out. Hope to be up and running in the next week.

| Re: FINALLY, I found the problem with overheating! ^_^ Earlier this year when the bike went down (left side) the radiator bent just enough to press up against the left fan to prevent it from spinning when at 220 degrees. Thus only the right side fan would work and the left side was getting hotter than F*#$ on my pants!
All is fixed. Look for pics to be posted soon of new custom paint job.

| Re: FINALLY, I found the problem with overheating! ^_^ I recently drained my coolant system in order to replace the green stuff with distilled water and water wetter so as to be track legal. I filled the right radiator with distilled water and ran the bike till the thermo opened up several times. I did this until i couldn't see any green during draining. I've ran the bike a good bit and think i got most of the antifreeze out. I'm sure there's some in there somewhere.
I filled the right radiator with distilled water and water wetter, ran the bike till the therm opened up (205 i think) Then bliped the throttle to get out air shut off, let cool then topped off the rad. then added the mix to the overflow res. Ok here's my question. Tonight i wanted to make sure the system was burped properly. I took off the rad cap and started the bike to warm it up. The bike was on a pit bull rear stand if that matters. I've noticed that when i pull out the fast idle the fans will come on way before 217 which is when they're supposed to. If i just let it idle, they don't come on till 217. WHY??????? |
