| What do the RC 51 power feel like ? I have a 00 929 RR. Im thinking of getting 05 RC 51 . The dealer said to me " the 05 1000 RR is a carving knive and the RC 51 is a Butcher Knife". My concern is the HP and torque difference. I know the whole 4 cyl and V-twin difference with torque, but i want to know what to expect. Like where is the power on the RC 51 and what type of power. Is it holy crap, hold on power. I would like 929 RR power, but at lower RPM's. Is that what the RC 51 is like? Thanx. |

| Re: What do the RC 51 power feel like ? Never rode a 929 but I can tell ya the RC makes power everywhere.. even with the tall stock gearing.
As for how its delivered all I can think of is sneaky. You twist and it pulls you into and past all speed limits faster then you could realize |

I had a 00 929 bought new, that was stolen in 02, and bought a 03 RC51 new to replace it...here is what I have found.
-RC51: sneaky fast! It seems to be less twitchy in the corners, where the 929 really was kind of freaky. That i think is because the RC's weight. As far as the power goes, it feels fat and slow when I first started riding it. Yet....it was not Fat and Slow...the bike just felt like it was...that I think can be blamed on the low RPM rumble of the VTWIN. Meaning it seems like it is hardly working.
The RC is smoother than the 929 was...as far as shifting and power to the ground. My 929 made about the same HP as the RC does...but the power hits me mid range, and in the top on the RC. (Thank you Mr soft rev mod, and thank you Mr Sato Banzai, and PCIIIr) I also dropped on tooth on the front, and added 3 on the back....that really made it feel quicker. (I am not one that really cares about stright line TOP end numbers...I more or less like the mid range for the twisties.)
Would I buy the RC51 again...YES...I would not pass it up. I like the feeling of the power, and the rumble of the TWIN. Do I miss the 929? Sure I do...I would like to have had both. I had never had a TWIN, and I really wanted to try it...glad I did.
Lastly...ride one if you can before you buy.

| Re: What do the RC 51 power feel like ? the power of the twin is very flat. It feels like you are doing nothing, but it is really moving out. Its very smooth and feels slow, but it is not.
When I first rode my RC after coming off my 929, it felt and pulled like the 929, but without the surge. I kept getting on the limiter of the RC because I was expecting it to just keep revving like the 929, but it didn't...
The RC is a tractor, a diesel truck, if you will... The liter I4s are like an M3 engine. Good grunt but a ballistic top end too...
I think the new I4s give up little to a twin. They aren't as rideable as a twin, but in a pure "numbers on the dyno" comparison, they are about the same as far as torque is concerned. But of course, since the I4s rev out higher typically, they make more HP... |

When people ask me what it's like to ride (an RC). I usually answer "Ever ride a 160mph tractor?". |

| Re: What do the RC 51 power feel like ? OK. So i got over-weight and underpowered, like riding a 160mph tractor. Does not sound like fun , but u also say if you want just the seat of the pants get the RR meaning the RC 51 is the whole packager? Lamens terms: You are saying the RC 51 is a 4 stroke dirtbike and the RR is a 2 stroke dirtbike. Is that a good power comparison? |

Its really preference.. The twin is just a different feel and attraction. I have only had mine for a couple of weeks but I havent looked back since... nor have the others who ride the 51 |
