| RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R anyone done a rollon side by side with one of these?
I was out riding this weekend and one of the guys just got one(has a Colin Edwards sig on the tank). Rode out to the wilderness on some lonely roads. He motioned me up beside him and we rolled on from about 45. I was on the 954 and he was RIGHT with me all the way to about 10k where my RPM let me leave him behind. Was wondering how the RC would stack up against it. He said the bike was rated at ~130hp. The rear of that bike, which is all I saw in the twisties looks cool. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R The Aprilia motor isn't quite as strong as the RC. The Aprilia feels heavy as well. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R Yes, sport rider did put the RC on the top above the 999 and the Aprilia. I am sure that cost figured into that test as well as performance. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R Friend of mine has an `03 (not a Factory model) and we run pretty equal on the street. He used to have an RC until it was stolen and says the RC was a better bike, but the `priller is more 'fun' at a higher cost.
If cash isn't an issue, pick up a Factory model. If it is an issue, find a leftover or low-miles RC. You can't go wrong with either bike. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R Well, my mate had an RC51 and I had a 929 then a 954. On the road, if we did that, he'd have left me for dead until the blade wound itself up into the higher range of rpm. The RC has way more torque than the blade (929/954) and well it should leave you behind in that instance. If the Mille was beside you, I'd suggest that it ain't as fast as the RC. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R I unfortunately, turned down a chance to ride a new 2004 mille at Jennings earlier this month. Earl (who bought Abtech's 929) had his there and offered a switch, but I declined.
My impressions: Earl is a better rider with more experience than myself. Having said that, he had no issues slinging the new mille around jennings like I did with the RC at jennings. I think its a lighter handling bike PERIOD. I never got to ride a 2002+ RC, and those are better I know. But having seen some of the things I have with the new mille R (not the factory), I'd have to give it the overall nod for being the better bike.
As for rollons... Thats so gearing, speed and weight dependent, its hard to make a judgement call... he would pull me a little initially on my 600RR on the back straight but once I got into the revs, I'd start to pull him back some... |

The 51 offers up a laundry list of amenities the competition can't. Trunk space, reliability, and most importantly, value. At $11,599, the RC51 is a ridiculously good bargain. Such a good value in fact that MCUSA Software engineer, Joe Wallace, went to the local Honda dealer and plopped down his hard earned money for a RC51 after our test.
There you have it. Honda pulls off the upset but can it compete on the track? One would think that a machine with two World Superbike titles and an AMA Superbike title in just three years of competitive existence could hang with the latest crop of competition inspired V-Twins, right? In one week you'll find out when we drop part 2 of our 2004 V-Twin Shootout: Track Test.

Both are in the neighborhood of 70 ft-lbs or so. I'd bet its the powerband and the gearing that makes the difference. |

| Re: RC51 vs Aprilia RSV 1000 R OK, I worded that a little wrongly.................. if both bikes are in say 5th gear or top, doing 110km/hr and you both roll on, then the RC is gonna munch the Blade. |

You got it right........the Mille isn't the quickest in a straight line, but will waaay out perform the RC in the twisties. The handling is like a dream, not much unput needed to flip it around. | |
