How much would the warranty be worth to you

I am looking at some RCs and one has 900ish miles but no warranty. The other is new with a warranty. Both '03. How much of a premium would the factory warranty be worth to the lords of RC? Thanks.

Nothin' practically, though I'm no RC lord. What kinda prices you getting?

If you get a new one, tighten the hose clamps.

Re: How much would the warranty be worth to you

Those things have one BURLY motor... I think one would have to have been run very hard for me to be concerned about warranty.

Now having said that, I paid 800 dollars to extend my warranty on the 1000rr when I bought it. I think it's pretty affordable insurance.

Here read this...honda reliability

I don't know much about the RC but, as far as hondas go...can't beat them for reliability. It seems that every one has had the same positive experience with them as I have. It sounds like every one has a ton of miles on and judging by some of the pics in the gallerys I would have to say that the bikes are "ridden" at a decent pace

But then again what do I know?...wait don't answer that...

Re: How much would the warranty be worth to you

It's a Honda, the warranty is worthless! I'm sure one of the legal eagles will chime in but I think some of the free mods technically void the warranty anyway. Hit the RC boards and I don't think you'd see many people mention the word warranty.

Oh Great Blue Wooly Wonder:

Read this for a different answer majority than you seem to be getting here.

Personally (and see post #2 on the link) I agree with extended warranties, but that's me.

Re: How much would the warranty be worth to you

Maybe I was not clear. Not an extended warranty. Rather a new bike with warranty (and option of extended warranty which I would not do) VS a ALMOST new bike with no factory warranty.

EDIT: In other words all things being mostly equal would you pay $500 more for a bike that has a warranty vs none? Remove $500 and insert the value where the answer is yes for you...

I would pay $500 so I could have new everything, break it in myself and have a warranty.

Pay the $500 for the new bike. Well worth it IMO

I wouldn't pay for either. There have been and will be nicely modded RC's going for $10k or less. I saw one go by for $10k, it had everything done to it possible. Full suspension, with hours and hours of testing to get it right. Full exhaust with the HRC ECU, hours and hours of dyno work with the bungs inserted into the pipes to get accurate measurement. Well into the $20k range, and it sold for $10k. It was fuggin sweet, made me mad as hell that I could have made an offer on that damn thing for that price. I was sooo pissed. They are around, well maintained too.

10K is WAY over budget for me. The '03s are pushing my limit. i just cannot bring myself to go SV no matter how much I look

EDIT: Plus you are assuming I need more than a stocker with reworked forks can provide and that is probably wrong

Remember our discussion on this prior? I knew someone reputable that had a mint '00 with 20k on the odo. If I didn't have one already, I would have taken it over a new one. Rearsets, reworked forks, clip ons, and some other nice bits for in the 5k range, and it was clean. Bodywork was mint, and so was the bike. Live and learn

Did not have the cash and it was a long way away. It was tempting though.
