| Wooly Onboard computer project I have decided this is a project that needs to be done so here is the thread that starts it all.
The current first phase is to install the onboard computer and use it to time laps. I will be installing a PC104 based computer, probably this one. Technologic TS-7200 with the battery backed up clock, LCD and ejector
Powered by a Technologic TS-12W power supply for 12V DC conversion.
Running Linux.
The IR beacon sensor design is not as firm yet, but I have USB Complete a book on making USB peripherals and am going to start persuing it tonight.
More photos and details as things evolve.

| Re: Wooly Onboard computer project What are your overall goals of the on-board computer? That is a ton of computing power to just do lap times? Is this for datalogging, or do you intend to run something in the future? You peaked my interest. |

RPM
Lean angle
Throttle Position
Suspension position
Tire Temperature
GPS position
And geek sheep bling factor fun. My thought is to have a USB run front to back with a hub in the front for sensor plug in. I had considered being able to reload Powercommander Maps but that requires Windoz and they will not share info so I can make my own in Linux. Also I would like to be able to have all the above time tagged for computing on the Mac laptop later. This is purely a for fun project though. |

| Re: Wooly Onboard computer project Ah...embedded computers and motorcycles, two of my favorite things.
I saw pics and documentation of a project just like this somewhere online a couple years ago. Been searching and can't find it now. Might be worth some searching.
Yes I know, I'm of no help whatsoever. Have fun with that cool project though. |

| Re: Wooly Onboard computer project I don't know how much you think you're going to spend on this, but you might be better off just buying a data aq set-up (unless the point is the fun of building it).
I have a Drack Gold from Aim sportsystems. The IR receiver is so common, I've never once had to use my beacon. http://www.aimsports.com/ |

If you do this... there is no way I'm sharing a garage with you next year at Grattan. |

I think it will be a blast building and extending it. Also would like total access to the data so I can run it into my own custom software. I even considered pumping video into the device although I think that is not happening. On the beacon I have no intentions of making one merely leveraging those present (if I can get the IR receiver done by October I might bring the Mac to a track day in October to test the reciever)
Thank you for the info though.
EDIT: and I might have to look at the capabilities of that for ideas |

I was hoping I could get download protocol from Dynojet but was not suprised by the no answer. I could possibly do downloads using soft windows on my Mac though. |
