I want a RC51 =)

I have quite a few bikes but love the way the RC51 looks. I know it wont outrun my 05 R1 but Im looking at two RC's. One is a 2001 with full MIG exhaust for $6500 and a 2002 with full jardine exhaust for $6900 and both have around 3,000 miles on them. Which is a better deal and what is the difference between SP1 and SP2? Also will the newer 600s and even 750s outrun the RC? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

For $400 go SP2 the resale alone will be that much more. Also the SP2 has better heads, bigger injectors, lighter rims, and other goodies. And it will outrun the R1 if the better rider is on an RC

Those things intimidate me.

Sheep, do I remember that there is an important difference in the swingarm as well?

Re: I want a RC51 =)

The swingarm (and all the bits required to make the change) lose just over 6 pounds between the SP1 and SP2 (the latter being the lighter assembly). The overall length is around 12 mm longer if I recall which helps corner exit (especially if you use the Moriwaki or Kyle rear link).

Re: I want a RC51 =)

I don't know why, it makes no damned sense. They're purposeful and kind of big. Almost like a piece of military equipment. I've passed a few, and I know that my CBR is at least as fast as most of them, but I still give them a wide berth...

Abtech's is gorgeous, and sounds like the walls of hell are coming down around your ears.. when he comes up behind you on the track I swear the ground shakes. And there's another fast Trackoholics guy with an RC who did something to make his gear-driven cams sound like screaming banshees to counterpoint his race exhaust.

Maybe they remind me of Rottweillers, or something. Now that I think about it, I feel similarly about Milles. Not Ducatis, though, or the V4 RC's.

I think someone should let me take a few laps on theirs so that I can come to really appreciate them!

i didnt get a rc51 =(. I get there and the guys says everything is perfect...except this small crack on the front fairing. I look and the crack is about 5 inches long and its completely seperated. Im like damn.. ok ok Ill work with the guy on the price but when he whops out the salvage title after he tells me its clear I say f**k this! and leave. I grab a cycle trader and see a black zx10 for sale in the area for $6800. So intead of a rc51 I picked up a 2004 Kawi Zx10R with 4500 miles but DAMN the zx is fast =). I still want a rc51 though.

Good move on getting away from that deal.

WHen you're ready for an RC look for a new '05 still in the box. That colour scheme kicks ass. THen give it to me.
