RC 51: to buy or not?

Hi, I am a new member here. I am in the market for a new bike after I sold my GSX-R about a year ago. I am in love with honda's (RC51, CBR's, Interceptor, etc.) and I came across a deal a couple of days ago. It is a 2001 Honda RC51 with 8k miles. It has a 2 brother's carbon exhaust and some minor modifications. The price is 5k$ after strong negotiation. This is alittle more than I wanted to spend but I see this bike being a really good deal. I initially wanted to spend 4k$ and get a CBR F41 (2001-2003). Will the bike make up the price difference or will I just be as happy with the F4i? I have been riding for a year and do ride alot. I dont do any track events, but I do get out there for the very-spirited riding occasions( mountains and twisties). I know the RC will have a better re-sale value, and is a better overall bike, but what I am aksing is will I as a non-racer be able to appreciate the RC? Sorry I know this is long, but I dont want to make a mistake by spending the extra money. I know its not alot only 1k$, but its still money I could put towards something else.
Thanks.

The RC is definetly more track-oriented than an F4i.

Having said that, a set of Helibars and a Sargent seat would pretty much transform the RC.

I'd go for the torquey V-twin, though I might get flamed from the Fireblade owners.

If you have to ask, you don't deserve it... You'll love the RC.

Re: RC 51: to buy or not?

Well guys. I decided to buy it. I like it thus far, but unfortunately in NJ we just had 8 inches of snow and I cant ride it. I will post some pics and opinions once the snow clears here. Thanks for the help.

Re: RC 51: to buy or not?

Congrats. Coming from a GSXR, the ergos shouldn't bother you too much, and as noted a couple minor changes can fix that. My 2000 had some first year issues with suspension and FI tuning. Revalving the forks (Dan Kyle) and an Ohlins fixed the suspension, and the PCIII fixed the injection issue. I believe the later years were better in these regards. Good luck waiting until the thaw.
