Galfer lines with Brembo MC

Not sure what the problem is as I'm sure this is a popular and common configuration. But I'm having issues here. I just tried installing the new MC and the new lines and when I went to bolt it up I ran into problems. The banjo at the MC won't torque down. It's bottoming out before it pulls everything together. I have a crush washer between the banjo, each line, and the MC (for a total of 3). What in the hell am I doing wrong here? Can I stack crush washers at the MC side to shim it out?

Re: Galfer lines with Brembo MC

Thanks... Seems (after more searching) that I may need a shorter banjo. Both banjos that I have are the same length, but I guess that doesn't mean much!

Nobody makes a double banjo bolt for the Brembo masters. The thread pitch is fine, but they are always slightly too long.

Yes, you can stack some extra crush washers between the m/c and the first line. I think you may only need one extra, but perhaps 2, depending on which crush washers you have.

Some people have cut the end down a bit, but that's a bit of a hassle whether you have the tools to do so or not.

It's been awhile, but I think the bolt that goes into the MC is a different pitch than the others 'cause it's Italian. I think the Brembos need a 1.0 and the other bolts are 1.25. ???

You are absolutely right... The pitch is right. Just too damn long... Gonna try cutting down my extra banjo tomorrow.

ok, good, you've got the 10x1.0! I didn't have issues with mine tightening, but it was a bit tricky to keep the lines in the right place. I also found I had to remove the damn thing to bleed it, as the lever hits the throttle housing, preventing the lever from being fully pulled in. Not an issue when braking, but it might be for proper bleeding. Hope you get the bolt sorted out!

Yeah, I guess that didn't sound right. I said the pitch is fine (the 10x1 as opposed to the coarse thread pitch on the OEM RC51 Master, which is 10x1.25). But I also meant it is fine as in okay, since you were able to thread it in without stripping it out!

Re: Galfer lines with Brembo MC

Thanks everyone... Wrapped the banjo in electrical tape, vice gripped it, and slowly ran it over a cutoff tool. I managed to keep it straight enough that the threads are all consistent. Cleaned out the fluid channel with a file. Threads in and lines up perfect! Feels kinda good doing machining on my own bike!

Brembo's use the "Italian" pitch, and so do the PVMs which I had. And I did have a double banjo for it.

I think he meant the depth of the threaded part. Or at least I hope that's what he meant...

Re: Galfer lines with Brembo MC

I'm thinking he meant the depth, too. However, Dan supplied me with the banjo bolt and it was a double, and the correct length. I mean, I assume it's a double. I have both brake lines attached with the one bolt, and I'm guessing I wouldn't have been able to bleed them if it was a banjo meant for a single line.

Heh, yeah, that's a "double banjo". Space for two line fittings and 3 crush washers.

True, the PVM Masters have the same thread pitch as the Brembo, but the Brembo has a more shallow hole for the line, so you need to cut the double banjo or add spacers. Double banjos work fine on PVM's without having to do that, since the hole is a few threads deeper. So yours should have worked without any issues...but we were talking about Brembos

Oh OK, I see what you're saying.

What are you doing playing with "exotic" braking systems and riding a Katana?

Yes, you did it right! And sounds like you did it well, too (you be suprised how many people just take a hacksaw to it and need another one )

A) You ever try to slow a bike that weighs 471lbs DRY on a track?

B) See the 2nd post in this thread
