Running Hot

Recently purchased 04 RC 51. Running at FWY speed to PCH approx. 72 degrees the bike was at 230 to 240. Running at slower speeds the temp. dropped to 215 to 230. On the way back in the evening the temp. went back up to 240 and on the last mile home hit 250 with the warning light comming on.
The water level is good in the radiator.
I know that this bike runs hot but has anyone experienced this problem.

Re: Running Hot

that is too hot...my rc runs hot but the fans kick on at 220 and have no problems cooling it down some. I would check too see if your fans are kicking on or check your coolant level and mix and make sure you have a working thermostat

Re: Running Hot

Sounds like you may have an air bubble in the line somewhere. Try burping her. Just throw her over your shoulder and tap her until she spits up all over your back. Or try searching for the "proper" method.

Re: Running Hot

Something's not right if your temps drop at slow speeds and rise at freeway speeds.

Re: Running Hot

i have an RC and last year I hit a pot hole and cracked the weld that held my radiator to the frame it didn't leak or overheat when i let it sit there and run but when u took it out the temp sky rocketed to 240-250 withno fan kicking on. The crack was probably a little larger than a pin so you'd be surprised how small a crack can screw your radiator up. I eventually just replaced the radiator and that solved everything....
