Buying an 06...couple questions...

I figured I'de ask a couple questions while I sit and save for a down payment for an 06.

A little background on me. I owned an 01 CLE R6 #33 for my 1st bike. Owned a 748 Duc, but I never really rode it, it was a restoration project that got sold. Rode dirtbike and bicycles my entire life, so being on two wheels has been fairly natural. I recently bought a Superhawk, wanting to get a bigger bike, and give a VTwin a shot. You can see my bike/mods here:

http://www.superhawkforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2155

LOVED the bike, and I have parted with it, and I can't help but to stay twin. Ducati's were out of the question since I'll actually be RIDING the bike. That maintenance is insanity. I'm not feeling ANYTHING Suzuki...so I'm left with the bigger brother of the Hawk....I've fallen in love and went to the dealer to go get one, but needed a bigger down payment than anticipated. So until then, I figured I'de learn up a bit and hit the ground running. Maybe even purchase some parts before I actually get the bike for some inspiration

Got a couple questions...well, two really, lol.

Exhaust. I know Sato is probably the best option, but what about Jardines? I owned Jardine Race Cores on my Superchicken and loved them:

Also, do I just get the 02+ exhaust/parts for the 06???

What's the 1st thing you'de buy aftermarket wise? I'm thinking Exhaust, frame/bar/swingarm sliders, Watsen Design signals in that order. I've read that the exhaust on the RC is much like that on the Hawk, heavy, super restrictive, gives you the best gains, and actually kinda stoichs out your A/F ratio...

This is gonna be a daily driver, and I have some cash in my pocket right now that is set aside for parts straight outta the box....what do you think?

I think to save money look into an older one since they are the same bike. that way you have money for the mods and don't have to worry about the extra the down payment is.

Got and pics of that CLE R6? I did a search and only found one. Paint scheme looked like the new yellow "Roberts" style one but in blue. What were the differences with the regular and CLE?

A power commander and regear it to 15-41 (speedo fixer thing if it is for road use). You can go 520 or not your choice (the 520 will lighten things).

As far as pipes I have no complaint on the Akropovic on mine (was on it when I got it)

Re: Buying an 06...couple questions...

Well, that was an option I was looking at, just getting an older one, but I need the warranty as this is going to be my daily grind. Also, considering the fact it has 0 miles...I dunno, peace of mind I guess, but it's definitly an option I'm looking into as the time comes to purchase...having no bike payments would be nice...also kinda gives me the opportunity to scour the market for a good deal...preferably low mileage, cause like I said, it's gonna be my daily driver...

The R6 CLE, all it was just limited edition plastics. And there were only 1000 made. Not just a paint scheme option, but it was actually a numbered series of only 1000 produced. All other R6's or years that say LE aren't really "Limited Edition"...more like optional paintjob.

Otherwise, it had no mechanical advantages or anything, just limited production plastics and a nice little plaque on the Triple tree. Not to mention a WAY better resale value. Initially, resale value wasn't that big a deal, as it was just different plastics. But as time has gone by, the CLE's hold thier value a TON better. Yamaha did it right this year by making everything Ohlins etc on the limited edition R1....

Hmm, thanks for the advice. ANy more would be greatly appreciated...the more knowledge I have, the better. The end of March is when I'm looking to actually purchase incase anybody is wondering....or is looking to sell thier low mileage RC51 around then

Sheep's right about the PCIII and 15/41 mod to start. Sato or Jardines would be a nice add as well, with both power gains and improved sound.

Other recommended mods include the flapper mod, Pair system removal, undertail, suspension upgrades, rearsets, steering damper, and dozens more ways to blow through cash like the rest of us.

Check out the mods section at the Rogue site: http://www.rc51.org/ for more specifics.
