I am new to the bike world but i like the side screen on the RC51. can i get that to fit on my 929? I am talking about the screen mesh you see covering up the motor on the side plastics. Were can I buy one to fit my 929?

You mean the radiators? Your radiator is in front, the RC51 radiators are on the side behind those vents.

You only like them because you have not been cooked by the RCs side radiators Only bad thing on an RC.

Re: can I put the RC51 mesh screen on my 929?

A number of people have modded their street and show bikes to put some mesh in some or all of the fairing openings. Aprilia does it a lot.

It won't have any function beyond aesthetics, but you can certainly get some sort of screen that appeals to you, clean and paint it, and attach it to the underside of your fairings with an appropriate adhesive.

That's only because you still have the fans. My RC gets pretty hot, but I have never had any issues with the radiator area getting hot enough to notice. That's what happens when you try to build a "dual purpose" ride . . .

Re: can I put the RC51 mesh screen on my 929?

Just remember that anything you put in the openings will cause restrictions and reduce the airflow, which is bad for cooling. You might be surprised by the amount of restriction that even an open looking screen can cause ... 25% to 50% is very common, and some house screens are more like 75%. Personally, I like as much airflow through the radiators as possible.

Yeah, but there's no radiator to restrict on the side of a 929.. unless you wad it.

No doubt.

I just happen to be in a powertrain cooling group now, and it is amazing to know the cooling and AC performance degradation that all of those "trick" grills that people put on cars and especially trucks. Some of the ones I've seen must block at least 80% of the airflow ... and then they wonder why the AC doesn't work and the engine overheats when they tow their camper up north ... and they complain about the poor performance to Consumers Reports and JD Powers ... the 's

Re: can I put the RC51 mesh screen on my 929?

I would use the cement mesh at home depot(u will get a big roll for less then five bucks and it is stronger) I started doing this mod back in 1998 and gets mad props!,a strong silicone will hold it in.Tins snips cuts it fine and use the cleaner side out(looks better) here is a pix of my fiances 929rr. good luck

Nope. I'm sure you would never cross paths; just interesting to see people from familiar places pop up on the board.

Re: can I put the RC51 mesh screen on my 929?

I did the same with my 954. I use the screens that are on the range filters that go in the hoods over your house stove. They are $5 a pop and I just pulled them apart to get the mesh cut them to size and used a hot glue gun to tack them in place. Make sure you dont put glue where the rad hoses are (he he he) Trust me dont ask! I have tons of air flow and I havn't notice any difference in the running temps.
