operating temp

i just bought an '01 rc51 w/ about 12,000mi. Everything seems to be in working order and runs great. I've noticed however when the weather is 75 or below, the bike temp stays around 170 deg on the highway but eventually warms up in traffic. I'm talking about 20-25 miles and still stays around 170.... I suspect the thermostat is stuck open to some degree... Even on 90 deg days the temp on the highway takes a long time to 190 range.... So what is the normal operating temp at highway speeds? Also has anyone replaced a thermostat on this bike and where would it be located? I've checked the coolant level and it is fine.

Re: operating temp

At 170, you are still very much within the working range... I've seen mine in the 220's. You're good...
