No spark at the plugs

Hi people,

I am having a problem with my SP-1 (Austalian model of the RC51)

I'm not getting any spark on one cylinder and inly i tiny little spark on the other, not enought to see but i can feel it when i touch the plug and the block.

I checked and there isnt any voltage getting to the rear coil either.

Any idea what could cause this will be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has a wiring diagram or knows where I can get one that would be awesome.

Thanks.

Re: No spark at the plugs

Do you have a service manual? There's a nice troubleshooting tree in there. I would also check all the grounds and battery connections to make sure they're tight. Has anything changed on the bike prior to this problem occurring?

Edit: Could be battery too... The battery can show 12V at idle, but not have enough amps to start the system.

Re: No spark at the plugs

Check the Kill switch after a fall I have seen them do strange things, and also have seen them just wear out.

also could be one of the 2 relays controled by the tip sensor or the tip sensor itself, a good check for that is to see if the uel pump comes on when you turn on the key.

Re: No spark at the plugs

The battery isnt the prob cos it's able to turn the bike over plenty fast and I have also tried jump starting it from my car (It turned over even faster then usual) and still nothing.

As for the kill switch/stand/tilt sensors, the fuel pump still kickes in when I turn the bike on so can't be then cos by looking at the wiring diagram the pump wouldnt run without them working.

I have a feeling its the CDI unit you I'm going to have a look around for a new/used one tomorrow and hopefully that'll fix my problems.

Thanks guys.

It sounds as if you have a coil out.

It'll run on one cylinder. Don't ask how I know...

Re: No spark at the plugs

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!

CDI Unit had a problem, I brought a second hand unit from a wreaker plugged it in and she fired up almost first go, expect the battery was too flat to turn her over so a quick jump start and off she roared!!

I think it was ccaused by the CDI Unit hitting the frame due to the bottom holder mount being broken from the frame.

So for future reference if your bike seems to drop a cylinder check out you CDI Unit, Mounted on the right hand side on the sub frame.
