| RC51 Actual Top Speed Has anyone actually ever found a place to hold an RC51 wide open for at least a half mile or so to see what the top speed is?
As I'm sure everyone knows, the theoretical top speed is about 170 mph but 130 HP aint gonna get you to 170 mph.
The reason I ask is because I'm switching to a 46 tooth rear sprocket (with a 15 front) and I think there's a good chance the bike will see 150 with this setup...
It should because my 2002 YZF/R6 got to 133 with my wife and I on it...a few years back - bone stock.
Troy Corser broke 200 mph in 1996 on a Ducati 916 at Daytona with a banzai qualifying engine and that engine was rumored to be about 180 hp.

| Re: RC51 Actual Top Speed You'll need more than 1/2 mile to see top speed. I thought I saw a magazine report some time ago that put it in the low 160mph range with stock gearing. |

there was a lot more left - 15/41 gearing
she flat shifts real nice... I picked up an electric shifter and will get that installed next week. I just hate rolling off the throttle when I'm on it..

| Re: RC51 Actual Top Speed I have a 2004 that I saw 170 on the speedo a few times and it was still pulling hard I had to slow down for the turns, this was when it was still stock.
I have not tried this again since I put on the Hindle slipons and power commander. |

My best guess is that an indicated 138 with that gearing is closer to 113 or so since you changed the overall gearing from 2.5 to 1 down to 2.74 to 1. (indicated - 18% speedo and gearing error). |

The percentage is constant, the amount of speed error will increase with speed however. At 50 mph a 10% error is 5mph, at 200 mph that same 10%error now translates to 20 mph and so on, the greater the error the more it's wrong at higher speeds. |

I'm not sure if it has to do with the speedo sensor arrangement or what... |

This is to prevent people from trying to see how fast they can go...
