| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage I bought my '03 51 in May of this year and paid $6950 at the local Honda dealership, and it had just under 6500 miles on it. It was bone stock without a scratch on it. Are you looking in dealerships or at private owners througha Cycle Trader or something like that? |

That price seems way high for that bike with that many miles on it. At least to me. |

Soon to be ridin ! | The price seems kind of high for the mileage but it depends on if it's stock or not.
I bought mine '00 in 2004 for $6,000 with only 5,000 miles. The bike was bone stock and flawless at the time.
If what you are looking for is a clean bike then the miles really aren't to big of an issue. 13,000 is not a whole lot of miles. There are alot of people here who put 6-10k in a single summer, myself included.. Good luck on your purchase |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage Miles aren't bad but the price is too high (depending on how many mods it has). I bought my '02 a year ago for $6,000, with less than 12K miles on it, and it had some high-dollar mods including a full Sato Banzai exhaust system, Power Commander, etc. Look on Ebay and other sites for what they've been selling for to get a better idea so you don't get hosed. |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage Yeah im looking for a private owner , dealerships add a few hundred on after taxes and other fees, the 02, w/ 13,000 is bone stock and clean asking %7500, the 02 with 6,000 miles has about $3500 in mods, real clean also but he is asking $8000 , Im starting to think I should buy below 10k miles...? |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage i bought my 01 in 03 with 8500 miles and i paid 3500+my 95 F3 that i paid 2800 for but also got a year of riding out of. so i basically paid about 6300 for mine when it was 2 years old..ive got about 15k on it now ...it amazes me when someone says what 10k miles...thats to many miles...but yet they will but a car with 5 to 6 times that many miles and think they are getting a low milage automobile..campared to a car or truck. bikes are like swiss watches....they are made to rack up miles....ive seen gold wings still running like a top after 180k miles with only normal maintence. ive had some people tell the RC dosent even start running to its potential until its got 20 or 30k on it...i wouldnt know if there is any truth to that cuz that is still another 3-4 years away for me. |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage My '94 CBR 900RR has 49k on it. And its been beaten hard its whole life. Doenst even use oil yet. For a Honda, 15k miles is nothing. My 954 has 19k on it and its absolutely great. Feels/sounds/rides like new. Save some money and find one with miles and mods. Thats the best bike you're gonna get for the least money.... |

Chris | Miles that low really don't mean anything ... but you can use them to negotiate on the price against an equivalent bike with lower miles
Just don't be doing that to me
For reference, sold my first VFR705 with over 50K miles on it, and it now has over 80K and running strong. Then I bought a VFR800 with 25K miles (1 season ) and had 35K on it before selling it to buy another VFR750 with 36K on the clocks ... that one now has 45K (or something, I forget) and going strong. My RC51 has 10K on it and no worries there either. |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage Why is it people are afraid of Bikes with over 10,000 miles?
To me it seems like they are barely broken in at that point Kind of like women in their 30's |

To me it seems like they are barely broken in at that point Kind of like women in their 30's | My first VFR750, which I owned since new, had a noticeable breakin point at about 16K. It revved freer, got better gas mileage, etc ... the suspension was getting weak by then, but that was the only thing ... and as I mentioned, had around 80K on it now and is still going strong.
As for Purp's other comments, well, I can't disagree there either |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage Mileage is no issue on a Honda...they are bulletproof if maintained.
Change oil/filter every 3000 miles
Check valves every 16,000 (none of my RC's ever needed adjustment)
That's it...
2000 RC51 35,000 miles, no problems
2002 RC 18,000 miles, nada
2004 RC 3,000 and not broken in yet...
2005 Ducati ST4s 19,000 miles, still getting stronger with every mile!
(as you can see, I like sport twins!)
One more thing,
The speedos all read optimistic and moreso if you change the sprockets, so actual mileage may be 10-15% less than showing on the odometer. |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage i gotta queston for ya motopho.....about the speedos. i went -1 up front. and a buddy of mine that also at the time had an 01 RC like mine had a speedo healer installed. and running down the highway i dont know what gear he was in but i was in 4th or 5th and both our speedos were reading 80MPH so we tested it at a few different speeds in different gears and what not and mine always seemed to be withing only 1-3MPH of his at any given time. why is this. if memory serves me correctly he said he had a police officer verify his with a radar for accuracy. so how could mine be so close if my bike is geared? |

Hondas are built way tougher...or am I wrong.. |

| Re: Buying a rc51 What considered High Milage I guess, going 1 up front and nothing in the rear brought your bike down a bit closer to reality. I went down from 16 to 15 in front and up from 40 to 41 rear and gps says my speedo was about 15% off until I installed a speedohealer from Jim Ahlmans...
Anyone else want to chime in on this one?

Anyway, want to trade for a new 05' RC. I know they're still some in warehouses out there bc the RC just ain't that popular among the young speedies. They all want the latest and greatest. Now, the bike's msrp is 11,999...so 12,000. The dealer is talking about 11k plus taxes!!!
What should i pay if i were paying cash - tax tag and title - out the door.
Then i'll think about the trade-in. I understand that the RC was a little more expensive than your average I4, but it's discontinued. Wouldn't they want to get rid of em? |
