Got the pipes on today, BUT...

Well I got the FMF pipes today, and installed them. (I ordered them online used second hand.) The thing that is bothering me is that there are no springs to attach the can to the mid pipe. The cans have the loops for the springs, but the mid pipes don’t have anything for the springs to hold onto. Iam not sure if this is a bad thing and wanted some feed back. In short the mid pipes go about 2 inches into the can and that’s the only type of contact between the mid pipes and cans. Is this bad?
With everything bolted down I am able to move the pipes left and right. I am not sure if the cans NEED to be held down tight. Help!

Thanks

Steve.

Here is a reference photo: Youll notice there are no springs holding the cans tightly to the mid pipes.

Re: Got the pipes on today, BUT...

I'd contact the MFGer and get the proper springs.

Granted, the springs may make the can feel a LITTLE "tighter" on the midpipe, just due to their pulling action. They're primarilly designed to make the system "quick release", to come back apart, rather then permanently clamping things together.

If it were my own bike, I'd want them on.

There are no loops on the mid pipes. I looked at them very very close and could not even find a mark where they could have been. I am thinking someone who made the mid pipe forgot to put them on. No more internet buys for me.

Re: Got the pipes on today, BUT...

Is there any relief cuts on the mid-pipe or the can where they meet? Some mfg's dont use springs but us clamps(i.e Micron). If the system is not intended for either springs or clamps I would take them down to a muffler shop and have them weld on some loops and get some springs just to be on the safe side.
