If I was selling it myself, I'd strip it, put it back to stock and sell the other stuff off. You get a better return that way.
If your friend wants it, then he knows what's in it and that's why he wants it, probably.
Best I can offer is to come up with a fair price, based on extras and some depreciation and see how good of a friend he is......
Maybe you guys can come to an agreement on a price, and an options list, and Ebay the rest.
A stock RC51, 2003 with 620 miles is worth about $6000-7000. Adding new Ohlins R&T is another $2500, and the rest of the stuff will push it over the $10K mark.
I just saw an R1, LE....mint and adult owned for $10500 with 4800 miles. That's a tough decission if I was looking at both bikes for close to the same cash.
Good luck with whatever you decide. All those mods, it's a shame you can't keep her and ride her once and a while. |

| Re: what's my RC51 worth I joined this site to respond to this bikes ad on E-Bay
I was asked about it from a potential bidder and as I have been building RC 51's for 5 years and have quite a bit of a following I was a little upset when I was told by the seller that I was as he said "A Moron"
So I thought I would ask here so as to make this public with no back stage theatrics or flaming. Mostly wanted to understand just a couple things.
The R&T forks on this bike are not FG 322's if you look at the amount of fork protruding above the triple clamps it is very obvious that smething is not right, I did ask the bidder to ask if possibly they were off another bike, perhaps a different model or even brand of bike.
I also asked Dan Kyle if he had any knowledge of this person that posted that he and Dan were good friends Dan does not know any ex AMA Ducati Superbike racer that has had a set of forks re-valved
He has 90 posts, I am brand new here, however if anyone knows me from ROGUE or other arenas I assure you I did not come here to start a war. Just find out what is up with this bike that a friend was going to bid on but was afraid he was being scammed.
FYI his pic and one of mine for comparison

well then it seems as though you are not telling the truth because I spoke to Dan on the phone today about the Daytona 200 and Honda's bogus claims about failing fuel pumps that failed within 10 seconds of each other.
I suggest you call him again. In fact Dan did not re-valve these forks for me - HE SOLD THEM TO ME BRAND NEW.
In addition you are not telling the entire story about what your email to me. You asserted the forks were installed wrong and were too tall in the triple trees. You said "I have many friends who have these installed" and that mine were installed wrong and my bike was unsafe to ride.
I never called you a moron, what I said is that you're friends were idiots for telling you what they told you, because their forks are installed improperly and they are courting disaster.
The simple fact is this.
Ohlins R&T forks are not the same length as stock Honda forks in an RC51 and therefore they cannot be set at the same height above the upper triple clamp. What you also failed to mention is that I told you the most important aspect of installing Ohlins forks IN ANY BIKE is that the distance from the bottom of the lower triple clamp to the ground while the bike is upright and at rest unladen by the rider must be maintained after the new forks are installed. I know this is correct, otherwise you change the weight balance of the bike and risk ill-handling and upsetting the balance the manufacturer used when designing the bike. This of course will vary to a very small degree by the amount of preload set on the forks. Therefore it is best to crank up the preload before removing the old forks to minimize sag and do the same on the new forks when installing them to either minimize or eliminate all sag. You can then set your preload after they are installed for your riding preferences or track conditions.
You call Dan back tomorrow and ask him if he spoke to Jeff Jennings today and he will verify that he did. While you're at it ask Dan if he remembers rebuilding the Ohlins shock on my Ducati 916 when I raced in the AMA superbike race at Laguna Seca back in 1997 which he did. He was helping Stig that race and learning all about Ohlins shocks and forks.
When you contact someone and make assertions that critical parts are installed improperly and also assert that their bike is unsafe, you should do your homework first and know the facts - because it's clear to me as I said in my response to you - that your friends do not know what they're talking about.
have a nice day...
ps: by the way - if you'd like to read about my installation of these forks after I bought them from Dan - you can read about it here - it's all documented along with everything I have said above: Ohlins R&T Forks...first ride report
and by way: if you have Ohlins forks installed on your bike and they were not installed as I have described, I recommend that you go back and change them because you've changed the balance on your bike and that's not safe. Of course the best thing you can do is to take the bike to a Computrak location and have them spec the bike...next to that - my method is the safest.
now since we're on the subject - I think all of us would like to know what scientific method you used when installing your forks to insure that the balance of your bike as not changed - like I did with mine. Please tell us you didn't just move them down in the triple trees until they "looked right" - especially since "looking right" on the surface appears to be more important to you than "being right" ???

have a nice day... | Well Jeff I was the person that told him that it was set up wrong, I never e-mailed you.
You actually are very wrong stating that the ride height is measured from the bottom of the triple calmp to the ground, as that would not factor physical fork travel. If you look at the picture of my bike you will see 15mm of fork protruding above the triple clamps, This is the correct amount of reveal using 28 mm of sag measured with the rider on the bike.
This is from Dan, this is from Ohlins.
Care to explain how measuring your method factors wheel travel?
In 1997 there were 2 Ducati's entered in the superbike race at Laguna. One was ridden by Matt Miladin, the other was ridden by his team mate Thomas Stevens there was no other Ducati Classes back in 1997. That race,... yea I was there, the guy that won it, he is a friend of mine
So exactly who are you? |

when did you last qualify for an ama superbike grid?
and do you care to explain how you method accounts for the changing of the ride angle and change in weight balance?
I stand by my method.

Yea we all forget the little things like the year we ran a National at Laguna
So Jeff at the ripe old age of 43 you ran around in the AMA?
Hmm I dunno, I kinda think you are full of it, really.
The RC you are selling, my take on it is total bull crap. it reaks of it, stock rubber brake lines and a stock rear shock that every person on the planet knows is nothing more then a prop to keep the rear tire off the subframe until a proper aftermarket component can be fitted. Any Racer of any caliber would have this kind of knowledge.
You are a total fraud arn't you?
I will take you up on your offer though, I will be at Barber Motorsports park for 2 days in May, come on over and show me what ya got. |

But he was from Westchester Pen. |
that's really funny - another racer wannabe taking shots at someone who has actually put their hyde on the line.
by the way... "people do move" you know..and since you know so much and since you were probably there watching me in the race with your nose stuffed up against the fence or perhaps you were in a stroller that day -which was it, why don't you tell us why I finished last that day?

| Re: what's my RC51 worth actually you are fraud. all you've done it take shots at someone who has actually been there and done it - jealousy? throttle envy? what is it?
but it's understandable... I watched people like you come and go in the pits for years..passing themselves off to their friends as the all knowing one and all the while doling out bad advice. Always talking big but never really getting a racing license and getting out on the track in a real race or better yet having to actually qualify for a race. and what 2 days at Barber . a real racing organization or just a track day?
.

what engine mods have you done? | thanks for the questions. I see you were one of the bidders on the ebay auction and therefore you know what's in the ebay ad and what is posted here. Engine cases have never been split and no 'internal engine mods' - the only mods are external and listed here - and stated in the same in the ebay ad.
time slips? - no: as stated in the ebay ad - bike has never been raced - road race or drag strip
lap times? - no: as stated in the ebay ad - bike has never been raced - road race or drag strip
dyno charts - no.
I have about 10 riding buddies a few w/R1's, one with an R6 one w/a Ducati 916 punched out to 984 and one with a Hyabusa - none one of them have ever out accelerated me. I've taken this bike out twice with them and the bike is a total monster through the gears. You have to lay on the tank to keep the front wheel down when accelerating. Electric shifter and reverse GP style shifting allow for WOT clutchless shifting.
If you're the winning bidder you can take it right over to Cecil Country Dragway which is two miles away and have some fun. You would need to install a wrist band kill switch though.
thanks for asking.
Jeff
