Upgrading suspension

Hi there.

I'm getting different fork springs and a heavier weight of oil for the front suspension, but I've heard that the stock Showa shock is a sealed unit and cannot be serviced.

Is this the case? I'm not in a position to afford a new one!

Thanks.

Stock Showa shock *can* be serviced, but it's a waste of money. It has issues that can't be changed and replacing it with an aftermarket shock is the only answer. You can find them (aftermarket) used from time to time at reasonable prices.

A Penske 3-way with remote went for $540 shipped ($1000 shock) this morning at Speedzilla. The deals are out there...

If your stock shock is leaking, or is toast, replace it with a used one until you get a better, aftermarket one. You can score one of those for $100 or less from other members.

I gave mine away to another member and it had 3200 miles on it.

Re: Upgrading suspension

You are referring to the front shocks right?
I did the Penske revalve and I will put it on par with an Ohlins front fork at 3 times the cost. While you're at it do the rear shock as well.
Unless you are a suspension guru, any 2 way adjustable shock will be better
than the stock rear. I also did the Penske in the rear. Their service is great
and the shock is customized to your weight vs. an off the shelf generic unit.
