| SP2 throttle body on an SP1? Hello guys,
I just traded my KTM Duke for a 2000 RC51.Did not know much about RC51s, I just love the way it looks. Now I am thinking about all the mods I should do to get more power.
Can we fit an SP2 Throttle body on a 2000 SP1? Would that add a few HP and is it complicated to do?
Thanks, |

Thanks, | Not sure I'd waste the time. THe SP1 ECU isn't mapped for the SP2 injectors and I'm not positive the ECU plugs are the same, which means a possible harness swap as well, just to incorporate the SP2 ECU....
The SP1 puts out close enough, if not more HPs then the SP2 in certain rpm ranges that the cost vs gains would be questionable.
Soft-Rev mod, PC with a decent MAP, gearing change from the stock 16/40 set-up and exhaust will give you the most improvement for the money. |

| Re: SP2 throttle body on an SP1? Thanks for the advice! Would a 15/45 gearing be OK for street and occasional Pocono track ride? I find the stock gearing is way too long... |

In first gear, it lifts the front and in second, it's too doggy. Running a larger rear sprocket in the rear, such as a 44-45 may eliminate that and enable you to stay in second.
I've been wanting to try it, but just haven't gotten around to it. I'm also not sure if a 15/45 is going to require you to use a larger then 104 link stock (SP1) chain.
I recommend to anyone to buy different rear gears and try it out and YOU decide what you like best, based on YOUR riding style. Start out with the 15/42 and go from there..... |

TPM and NESBA. I see NYSBK has pretty many days scheduled for Pocono this season, and I also have heard good things about their club. |

| Re: SP2 throttle body on an SP1? Yes, it is a pretty good club with good guys and plenty track time.I think it has less riders than TPM but that equals more time for the riders. How is the RC51 compared to other bikes? I had an 2000 R1 and that was pretty fast but I am told I will be slower on the RC51 ,like most 600s. I know the RC51 has less power and heavyer but I hope it can make up some time somewhere... |

As far as you being slower on the RC51 than the R1, you might surprise yourself ... unless you were really getting everything out of the R1. The RC51 has a real nice torque curve that might let you use more of the power than you might have on the R1 (again, I don't know your skill or agression level ).
I know I can still turn a quicker time at Grattan on my little Hawk GT than I am with the RC51, just because I am comfortable getting on the gas early and carrying more speed through the corners ... I am improving that though . You might find the same thing going to the RC.
Have fun, I really like my SP1's |

I am an ex road racer/motocrosser/supermotarder and run 1.13s on Pocono East last year on my R1.Not the fastest but not the slowest either and I use DOT 208 GPs.BTW is 180 the right rear size or 190 is what I should use? |

A 180-55 or even a 190-55 is better due to the rounder profile. I find the 190-50 to be too flat and the 180/190-55 adds a little rear ride height and helps improve turn in over the stock size.
Great pics, mang. The more I see those supermotards, the more I want one....
At one of the last TPM events I was at, there was a dude running in the "A" group, riding circles around the sportbikes. The sportbike guys were getting frustrated, cause no way is a "dirtbike" supposted to beat sportbikes... It was cool to watch. The guy could ride, that's for sure... |

| Re: SP2 throttle body on an SP1? Was he on a blue Yamaha? Doug Henry used to ride with us in Pocono.I was on my R1 an on the left hand turn after the back strait he would pass me on the out side...I was pissed, no mater how hard I tried he would get on the gas sooner,on the brake later and would carry more corner speed. But again he was making a living doing that. Unfortunately he got hurt very bad last month and his riding days are over,I am very sad to say that.He is a great guy and deserved better.... |

What I do remember was that he had both the motard, and an RC51. He was a big boy, too. Tall with a crew cut. Not too sure I'd be making jokes about his momma, within earshot of him.... |

I don't get out there much for the various track days anymore. I have been there a few times when there were several Gamma's, so I'm sure we've been there at the same time.
Being a motarder, you will probably like the torque of the RC in the corners. have fun. |
