| 2003 RC51 Help I just got a "slightly used" rc51 today, and I am wanting to custom the bike out. I was wanting to get some input / ideas on new radiators (because these things over heat so bad in TX), and im looking for ideas on putting in some custom headlights that dont look so huge and ugly.
I was thinking of doing the center radiator, but its quite expensive, so i was curious if anyone knew if any 1000cc honda RR raditors would possibly work, possibly even thier headlights might be custom mounted? |

| Re: 2003 RC51 Help you can get front mounts, they are for sale from time to time on speedzilla. but are very expensive and unless your doing alot of racing they are not practical.
the RC is not a commuter bike, its not a ride around the city bike.
you can reverse the polarity of the right side fan ior remove it all together, that has helped many people cool thier bikes.
easy fix is dumping the honda coolant and swapping for EI or WW. chances are the coolant in your bike is prolly the coolant it came from dealer with |

I moved to AZ, bought a RC and it runs freakn hot. But it is freakn hot outside here anyway. Any ideas, including the polarity and/or removal of the right fan is much appreciated. I did switch to Engine Ice, with no improvement. |

| Re: 2003 RC51 Help I ended up reversing both fans, getting some rad fins, and running engine ice, which has over all helped about 13 deg. in ride. and cools faster when its idle.
There are also some scoops that you can have made that channel air from the front to the radiators and will still alow your fans to mount. They are a little pricey but i have seen some charts and they seem to be the way to go outside of front mount |

| Re: 2003 RC51 Help You can also put in a manual fan switch. That way you can turn the fan on well before it gets to 220. It's wired in so that even if you don't turn it on, the the temp switch will still work as it is supposed to. I run engine ice and with the fan switch, I can keep the temps around 185 sitting in traffic. It will still creep up slowly if you sit for a long time, but you usually get moving before it gets to high. |

| Re: 2003 RC51 Help For the 02 and up you need to tap into the black wire that is on the fan relay in the tail. Run this up to the front somewhere you want to put a switch. Connect this wire to one side of the switch. From the other terminal go to a good ground on the frame. Now whenever you flip the switch, you will give the fan a ground that it needs to run. Turn it on before the temps hit 200 and it will bring it right down. Doing this mod on an 00-01 is easier. You only have to tap into the wire on the temp switch on the left radiator and switch it to ground. |
