| Some questions about my "new" RC51 I'm the guy with the RC51 vs. CRB 929/954rr bike dilemma thread.Asked my buddy what gas he usually runs and he said "mid grade". Ran some and noticed some pinging so I filled up with 93 octane today. Could still hear it lugging the bike in 3rd. Is this normal?? I know, don't lug it....lol Bike got about 32 MPG. Not bad considering most of that was WFO.
Yea I agree on the gearing, its beyond horrible. The tall gearing makes the bike feel.....well kinda sluggish at times. I don't even know if this bike has a 4th, 5th or 6th gear. My buddy has a 520 conversion he bought (goes with the bike-I just gotta get it from him) with -1 gear in the front and +2 in the rear. Is that a little too radical?? I don't want an uncontrollable wheelie machine (I'd buy a new K7 GXSR 1000 if I wanted that)
One thing i noticed, if you want attention get an RC. Two guys with Harley's at work just couldn't get over how great it sounded. Pulling out of a gas station a young kid on a ZX6R 636 pulled up next to me to give me the "Wow that bike is incredible!" Its almost a sickness, I actually think constantly about riding it. I actually took it to work yesterday KNOWING it was gonna rain (BTW this bike is a handful on wet roads) |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 15/41 is the most common gearing...i just went up 2 in the rear to retain some of the top end. I would only use premium in that bike...mine states 92 octane or above. I just bought a new house so im going to sell my 04 hayden rep. so im going miss all that you just talked about

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 GG on the RC they are great fun. Personally I would leave the gearing alone, drive it for a couple thou then decide. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 Go with the gearing I have +1, -1 on mine and use it as a track bike but it was much better the time I rode it on the road. It will pick up a bit but throttle control is your friend (I also have a quick turn throttle)

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 Gday mate. I relied to your RC51 v's CBR929 posting. I told you i was right about the eye factor that these bikes have. I personally sometimes go for a ride just to catch peoples reactions. Trust my judgement when i suggest that you use a standard rear sprocket and go -1 on the front. This will give you the ability to get up on the back wheel when YOU want and not when the bike wants. Get some photos up a.s.a.p. Good luck and have fun having one of the hottest lookin and sounding bikes in the world. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 Ok my buddy brought over the sprockets he had, He told me he forgot what he had. It wasn't a 520 conversion, just a 530 with 15/43 sprockets. Actually good news since I could go one down on the front and see how i like it. Well I did it a few days ago and couldn't tell much of a difference. Pulling out is a little easier but the bike still feels really tall geared. Since his 43 tooth rear is a little radical I'm wondering now if I should throw the new chain on with a 41 tooth sprocket. I honestly thought the -1 on the front would make a real huge difference. Noticeable but not much different. This would give me the traditional modified gearing of 15/41. Good idea?? Local motorcycle shop has a 42 tooth rear, would that be too radical?? Don't want a wheelie monster, saw my first power wheelie with the -1 front sprocket, however if you keep your weight front you are ok. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 Im not to familiar with what the tooth count on the rear should be, but the power wheelie you described with the -1 front is the correct result, its enough to pull you out of corners with more punch. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 i have a -1 on the front and i love it. its perfect because you can actually use ALL of your RPM range in all gears. i have thought about going +1 in the rear but im so happy with the bike now im afraid to mess up a good thing. i would want to ride another first. i also have a quick turn throttle which i highly recomend for this bike, throttle response and control becomes much easier. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 I wiegh 235lbs and if I roll on the throttle hard the front wheel comes up even if I am leaning forward, I have a 15/42. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 I just posted a similar response, just looking for feedback. This is the short version. I bought a 15T front sprocket after 3 years of ownership cuz I seldom use 6th and 1st is wicked tall. Turns out I already had a 15T front. I would like to decrease rpms by about 10%, would a 44T rear do this? I read a few have 15/42, what is top end in 1st or 2nd? Mine lugs in 6th under 75.
Thanks |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 16/40 corresponds to a final drive ration of 0.4:1. That is, for every whole revolution of the output shaft, the rear wheel turns 0.4 revolutions.
15/40 = 0.375:1 (your combo)
15/41 = 0.366:1
15/42 = 0.357:1 (most common)
15/43 = 0.349:1
15/44 = 0.341:1 (very short I think)
I got my bike with a 16/45 combination already installed and people said it would be a wheelie beast, but when you work it out its about 0.356:1, almost identical to the 15/42 combination and I am pretty happy with it. I tend to go longer distances so I am thinking I will go to 16/44 (to keep the RPM down a little and save some fuel) over the winter, assuming 44 teeth is available. I assume it would be. 15/42 is well established, 15/43 doesn't seem too crazy, but I think if you go to 15/44 you'll find it pretty twitchy. |

| Re: Some questions about my "new" RC51 Thanks for the help, ordered a 43T, 44T was on shelf and tempting!! I think I will be happy with it. Reading about the speedo healer and now knowing that I have a 15T front, I understand why my speedo has been so inaccurate!! That is next |
