| RC51 Potential... I own a 1995 Honda CBR900RR, and it has plenty of power for me on the street. I am planning on moving on to a SP2, and wonder if it has the potential to be wild.
I ridden one before. It was great. I loved the sound, handling, and especially the torque it had.
Would I be stepping down when it comes to performance? Also, there are many ways I could get the SP2 performance to increase a ton, correct?
I am planning on purchasing one during the winter months. |

| Re: RC51 Potential... i dont think you would be stepping down at all. do some research on the rc and youll find that it was honda's factory race bike. since conception it was offered to the public but without headlights and mirrors etc. honda decided in 00 to make it street legal. so an rc is literally a street legal race bike. change the gears a little to a 15/41 or 15/42, some slipons and a pc3 and ride the hell out of it. |

| Re: RC51 Potential... I have read plenty about gearing, but even though, I still would like to know some more.
For the RC51, it comes stock with a 16/40 gearing.
If I were to take and make it a 15/41, how would its performance change?
A 15/42?
What pros and cons about it?
What is the best gearing for the RC51 on the street? I don't care as much about being able to go 170 mph +, but would like a meaty powerband and great acceleration/roll ons.
**Some comments from people who have experienced with it please** |

PROS:
The RC is not a wheelie machine.
torque curve is so strong you cant help but love it.
130+ hp stock that comes alive at 4000 instead of 7000 rpm.
CONS:
not the most comfy to ride.
lurches at 3000-3500rpm, mostly curable with flapper mod and slip-ons
factory 16/40 gearing is very tall
slightly heavier than most bikes
on stock gears its very fun very strong but takes too long to run out the gears and topping it out youll never see the last 2000 rpm before redline. i dropped to a 15/40 and its much more alive. still holds the road under hard acceleraton but you can top out quicker and use those last 2000 rpm. i am considering a 41 tooth but doubt ill go more than that. its mostly a street bike, i dont stunt and rarely can afford to do track days. to put it simple man, you just gotta ride it. not borrow your buddies to go around the block but spend a day on one. adjust to the v-twin feel and push it a little. watch people watch you as you ride by or pull in a parking lot. theres no reason not to love an RC.
On the other hand there are many good things about a I-4. better fuel economy. more hp potential. easier to accessorize. i myself would love to own all the honda superbikes. 900, 929, 954, 1000, and all the rc's before the 51.
no matter what bikes i own in the future, ill never sell my RC51. |

The RC is a fine bike, but the 900 has as much potential as the showroom RC51, which shares nothing with the short-lived superbike RC.
I rode an RC51 before I bought my 954 and decided right then I wouldn't own one.
The current 600RR will run circles around the RC51 in its sleep as well.
But I currently don't even have the 600RR, so your poor excuse for an attempted dig is even more invalid. |

But I currently don't even have the 600RR, so your poor excuse for an attempted dig is even more invalid. | no doubt that the current smaller I-4s will keep up with or out run an RC, depending on who is riding them, and ill go that RCs arent for everyone, you either love or hate the twin, that being said i think my "attempted dig" is valid because i stated my own personal views of the bike and my joys of riding it. i did agree with you that a 900 has potential for more power, but you must agree that coming out of a corner and twisting on a twin is a totally different feeling than a I-4. all bikes will do 150+ the only difference is how fast they get there out of the turn. and sure you probly can out ride me congrats, thats like being the winner of the special olympics, even if you win your internet arguement, your still retarded. | Re: RC51 Potential... I have riden 600RRs, F4i, 1000rr, R6, R1, Zx6r, gsxr600s and a busa (fast but useless). And of these bikes that ihave had the pleasure of splending some time on i still love the RC much more. As i stated earlier, its a matter of opinion and preference. Mine lies on an RC. |

| Re: RC51 Potential... I have an 03 with just slip ons and 12/42 gearing, I raced my buddy on a gsxr600, we were turnign around on a closed highway and he got on it before I did, and I was a good 3 bike lengths behind him. I pulled up to his back tire before I ran out of 6th gear and he pulled away slightly. |
