suspension setup

Hi all,
Been an watchin this forum for a while now and i've picked up a lot of useful informaton. I've been driving GSXRs for years and i was going to buy a TL1000R however i've gone for a sp1/RC51 instead.
I like the vtwin power. my problem is in the handling. I live in ireland and some of our roads are very twisty but also very bumpy.
Im finding that the sp1 is shaking its head (and not in a very nice way)it wobbles and weaves, the GSXRs never did this no matter how bad the surface or how hard the bikes were being pushed.I have new pirelli tyres on and i have made the suspension a bit harder this has helped some but not as much as i would like.im not big into setup and im hoping some one out there can advise me on what might be wrong.im at the point that im afaraid to push the bike cause i know it a matter of time until im inside a hedge...
I drove a 929 blade over last weekend and it was on standard settings and felt so much more planted and was much easier to ride hard..
Thanks in advance for any info you might have..

Re: suspension setup

part of the problem is that gsxr's come from the factory with a steering damper and the rc does not, so that might be an investment to look into......sorry no more useful info.

Re: suspension setup

should fix with a damper, if you push it you should have one....no matter what bike you have!

Re: suspension setup

Also consider getting the front end done. I cannot recommend anyone over there but had mine done (track use) and it made the front MUCH more planted. Also a on the damper though mine does not shake on the track and I have my Scott's set at the lowest setting.

Re: suspension setup

The suspension on my year 2000 SP1 was horrid stock. Sheepofblue mentions the front, I'd suggest checking the rear too. Mine was very harsh and would throw me out of the seat on some of our expansion/frost-heave bumps. This throws you onto the bars which also make it shake some. Completely different bike after investing in the suspension (Dan Kyle reworked forks and an Ohlins rear shock). The SP1 is a very stable bike, much more than the CBR's, so I'm guessing your wobble is due to the grip on the bars. Fixing the suspension should help this. If you aren't tight, I'd be checking all of your setting (ride height, sag, damping, etc.).

Good luck, I hope you get it sorted
