| I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! OK, so I will be picking up my 04 Hayden Rep in a few days and i have been waiting for a couple of weeks now for my bank to get their sh!t together with my finances, which means alot of web surfing for cool 51 bits.
I am looking for the most ridiculous abuse of carbon fiber currently out there with some good pictures so I can gauge how far i can sensibly (or ridiculously) take this obsession of mine wthout seeming like a total weenie.
So far in my head, I'm at about $8000 worth of CF which I am seriously considering purchasing...for a total estimated weight savings of ~50 - 60lbs.
somebody talk some sense into me...or encourage me if that's what you feel the situation calls for...or toss me about $8000 if you feel it's a worthwhile cause...
Any and all opinion, no matter how unkind, will be considered...but really I'm more interested in how a full CF RC51 will look.
thanks,

I don't think I will spend 8 G's, but I am thinking maybe wheels and hugger...from there we'll see. Anyone out there runnign BST wheels? Any feedback?

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! I assume you want the weight for handling and track use? If it is for bling go CF. If not do the suspension, 520 conversion, then get some lighter rims, track plastic and lighter exhaust. You have not lost 50-60 but you have lost 20-30 and have a MUCH better bike. |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! I have Thorsten HRC carbon race plastics and OPP racing carbon street plastics also Carbon air box and snorkle. Thats about as far as Im going with the carbon except for a new fender and air scoops. Ive invested alot of money into titanium fastners which are 40% lighter than stock. If you looking for weight loss than go with Thorstens set up, he has a full carbon moncoque tail(no subframe) carbon body, and carbon underseat gas tank and carbon dummy tank, that is going to provide the most weight loss and would be absolutly sick!!!!! Its you money and your bike so spend as much $ as you want. IMHO |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! Well I'm not going to pretend that I'm some sort of "Track Star". I'm not. In all honesty, it's pretty much a cool factor thing. I want the bike to be as unique and interesting as I can make it. I would like to enentually get it under 400lbs wet. Thorsten's rear end would definitely do that, but the money and the complexity are a little daunting. Seems like it would be stupid of me to go that far for street use...but then...stupid can be fun too. If Jay Leno can put a 1000HP engine in a Toronado, by comparison, how stupid am I? |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! OK then rims will lose you 10+ lbs depending on style (I would not go CF for street use) Ohlins forks have a bling factor. |

Do you think the CF rims would be too brittle for the uneven road surface or is there some other reasoning on that? |

I wonder how difficult the underseat fuel tank would be to install. That one and the monocoque tail are the most interesting, but also seems like they would be the most challenging to do well. Does anyone know anyone who's done any of Durbahn's more extreme mods? |

The cost of the Carbon pipes was around $1250 from Kyle Racing. They are awesome!
I'll post some pics of the bike without the plastics so you can take a good look at them. |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! I think wheels and tank are achievable over the next couple of years. I have titanium exhaust with Leo Vince cans. I like the sound of and they look fine and I don't think I could lose much weight there for the money it would cost. The Durbhan tail section with underseat fuel tank is very interesting, I would love to know what the bike feels like after that mod, but it's very expensive and would require a lot of time to get right.
Who knows. It all depends what I can talk the wife into. |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! Ok since nobody listed it - goto OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS INC. - you can buy the entire body, gas tank included in carbon fiber, kevlar, or Titaniam silver (you can even get a combo of 2 to include the honda wings - carbon fiber with titaniam silver wings woven right in.)
They also have the sickest carbon fiber mirrors you have ever seen in any color. |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! Hey, if the BST wheels leak, that is a problem from about 2003/4 where some wheels were let out, send it back and they will repair/ replace it. they have over 8000 sets out there with about 25 wheels being returned that is 0.003 % not bad considering the competition has 10%. |

| Re: I am a Carbon Fiber JUNKIE!!! With Carbon fiber wheels, I hope you have a dependable place to get tires mounted. I have seen some real hack jobs that would absolutely ruin Carbon Fiber. Carbon Fiber is less flexible than your stock rims, but much lighter. If you look at your stock rims they have tried to take all of the flex out of them through engineering practices such as the I-beam shaped spokes and reinforced edges for years, so CF wheels will do that for you, but if you damage them watch out $$$.
