Clutch not engaging

Just got the sprockets and new chain on. Pull in clutch to start and nothing, no resistance and not engaging. Check everything and it is all good still no pressure. I bled the lines a bit, still nothing. Currently have tied the clutch in to see if I can get a bubble out or confirm valve leaks. It was apart for a week while I went on vacation and till the right sprocket came in. Nearly 2 weeks now without riding it. The wifes 250 ninja is not the Twin I want to ride, but at 70mpg it is not bad.

What else can I look at?

Re: Clutch not engaging

have you pulled release cylinder off again to see you you put push rod back in place. if all fluids are okay and system bleed thats only thing it could be. also when release cylinder off, pull clutch in to see if piston is still moving.

Re: Clutch not engaging

Yep, rod is in place and clutch has pressure. With it removed, clutch lever can move piston even against my thumbs acting as resistance. Everything seems right except no resistance on the lever.

Re: Clutch not engaging

if no fluids leaking then slave and master cylinder should be ok, is there any chance that release cylinder being held out. or try with release cylinder removed and clutch held in, refit release cylinder.

Re: Clutch not engaging

Pete-
Are you saying remove slave, pull in clutch and hold, re-install slave?
Should I put rod in slave prior to pulling clutch and then install rod/slave combo together while clutch lever is in? Sounds like a good idea if I understand correctly.

I thought pulling clutch while slave off was bad if pulled more than half way.

Nothing leaks, bike works great except the whole shifting and stopping thing.

THanks for the help.

Re: Clutch not engaging

yep thats the one. if you pull clutch in all the way there shouldnt be a problem just watch the piston to make sure it does,nt come all the way out. the other thought is,with every thing togeather, pull clutch in all the way put clamp on hose and release. it almost seems like when you pull clutch in piston does,nt travel enough then when releasing is sucks piston back. or if push rod was removed there may some thing on the other end that moved so you may have to remove clutch cover

Re: Clutch not engaging

I finally got it. Bled the system completely. Just had air in the system and what little was bled never fixed it. About 15 mins of bleeding and it works fine. Local shop said it is common with hydraulic clutches. Love the new sprocket combo-15/43. Finally what it should have been. I can ride slower than 20mph now. Speedo is off greatly though. The max speed in 1st increased with lower sprockets so I know it is bad!!!
THanks for the help.
