spark plug ?

here is my question. i found some info on plugs yesterday referring to the number that advance auto parts uses, as i forgot what plug to order from them. i know they can get them cheap. so i took the # i found here (6588) and just stopped by and ordered plugs. no big deal. then i got to thinking and realized that that is not the plug i need ( or have always had in my bike, its a 2001) i need number 4709 (or FR9BI 11) so i went on to the NGKs site and did some looking around, it appears as the only difference is that the plugs listed for the 02-06 (sp-2) have a stepped platinum shoulder on the electrode where the 00-01 (SP-1) does not have that. its just the irridium electrode. the threads are the same, the depth is the same the heat range is the same. that and the 6588 plugs cost about $3 more per plug ( dont care about that) but can these plugs be used in the 01? thats my only concern. or should i just have them re-order the correct plugs.

thanks in advance
Kelley

Re: spark plug ?

Gday kellyj. For the price you paid for them i personally would give them a try if all the other specs measure up. You could be the lucky lab rat that helps all of us SP1 model owners find out if there are better and more enduring plugs out there for us to use.
