Speedo Swap

Does anyone know if the speedo/cluster/gauges from any other Honda bike will work with an SP2? I am using the engine in an offroad buggy. I have run across RC51 clusters on ebay but they usually end-up selling for more than I'd like to pay. What I'm really looking for is the tachometer, neutral light, oil light, temp light, etc. Speedometer/high-beam is not important.

Any info is geatly appreaciated as well as any leads on where to buy a nice/used cluster.

Thanks

Re: Speedo Swap

What about the VTR1000 Firestorm/Superhawk? Similar engine so there should be similar wiring and stuff.

Payment for this information is pictures of your project, cause it sounds cool. I've got a 600cc 2 cylinder Subaru micro car that I'd love to stick the 1000cc v twin into running through rear wheels.

Re: Speedo Swap

Well I got tired of waiting and picked up a speedo from fleaBay. I bought it off an SP1 and I have an SP2 motor. I think it should work. Part number between the different years seemed to be the same, so I think it should work with my motor (anyone want to chime in here ).

Now that I learned that the cluster works off the motor output shaft it looks like I'll be able to use the speedometer and know how fast I'm going . My question now is does anyone know how to reset the mileage on the odometer? I think I remember reading that this was somehow possible or that a company could do it for you as well as change the display colors. Does any one know how to do this or have a web site for someone who can do this? Also, will a speedo-healer help correct the difference due to tire size I'll be using?

I'll try to post pictures of my project as it progresses. At the moment all I have is a pile of parts. Basically building the buggy around the RC51 motor. Everyone says the RC51 should make a great motor because of the low-end torque band (I won't have to keep the engine near redline to get decent torque).

Thanks...

Found the answer to my own question:

Honda RC51 Gauge Backlighting - Bluegauges.com

Bluegauges.com - Mileage Correction
