dunlop qualifiers

hey, I searched but I got lazy and didnt find the info.... I hate tire threads almost as much as oil threads, but anyone running qualifiers have a good starting pressure for the street? mostly just riding, but with some harder riding.

thanks

Re: dunlop qualifiers

For street I would start with the recommended pressures on the bike. Adjust from there to get what you are looking for.

Re: dunlop qualifiers

How do you like them so far? I was curious how they feel and grip confidence. Plus...what tire did you come off of?

Re: dunlop qualifiers

thanx Will, i started there and have been toying around. was just wondering if anyone had run them before

Racer, their pretty good so far, but ive only got 300 or so miles on them. I had 208's on that were wasted. ive had powers on all the other bikes i owned, but cyclegear had a $190 a set sale on the qualifiers so i went that way. at this point they feel alot like powers, but wet grip and lifespan are a unknown. they feel good

Re: dunlop qualifiers

I spoke with a guy at the track and he ran those tires with 29psi fronts and 32rears. he did say that compared to the PP's that they were similar but there were a few sections of the track that caused him to work harder to make transisions on flip-flop sections.

I saw that sale here and almost bought them but I was too late for the sale price and am now looking at Diablo Corsa III's!

Re: dunlop qualifiers

i noticed that they have a more "pointy" profile. seems like their designed that way. they turn in nice and have a lot of "meat" left when leaned over. the dunlop website says they're designed that way.

how ya liking those diablos?

Re: dunlop qualifiers

I've been running Qualifiers since they came out. Now on my 2nd front and 3rd rear. They have incredible grip and feel on the street just be sure the tires get some time to warm up. I run 34-35 front and rear. For the street I wouldn't go any lower. On the track they say to start around 30 and the tire will go up about 3 psi as it gets hot.
A word of caution. Be sure your tire gauge is accurate. There is a lot of junk out there.

Re: dunlop qualifiers

I've gone highway speeds (70-80mph) in the rain without any issue although I"ve never pushed the limits in corners or anything when wet. One thing I did do was a burnout on wet pavement thinking it would spin up easily but it took a bit of effort to get it going. Almost as much as dry pavement to my surprise and that was on a worn tire. So I think they have pretty good grip in the wet.

Re: dunlop qualifiers

I had some at Putnam Raceway last year and they ran pretty nice on a wet track. I was never out in downpour but the track was damp to standing water all day. The couple of times they got a bit loose were fairly predictable. Be aware that while this was at the track so speeds were up, I was doing my best to be SMOOTH on brakes and throttle. I was generally able to outrun or run with faster friends that had DOT tires on. Not as good as full rains but decent in rain (decent chance I will use them as my trackday rain tires when I get a second set of rims for the RC)

Re: dunlop qualifiers

coming home last night from my gf's i took a corner, 90degree, kinda fast. the city sprinklers must have just shut off and there were water streams running through the corner midway. so i went from dry to wet to dry. kinda scared me and i know to watch out for that, but the bike never even flinched

Sometimes rain tires slip too.

And yes there are slicks on the bike when this pic was taken but he crashed on rains earlier in the day.
