Question about accessories and excessive battery draw.

Hey all, my first post and it's good to be here!

I never ride w/o my radar detector (Escort 8500) and my gps (Garmin Zumo), they're both wired directly to my RC's battery.

I'm thinking about investing in Gerbing's heated jacket liner and gloves since the local weather here has been hovering just above the freezing mark at night, usually right around the time I'm ready to turn around towards home.

I know the radar detector and gps hardly draw any power from the battery, but the heated jacket liner and gloves need a combined 8.6 amps to work properly. So my question is - is this too much for the bike (2000 SP1)?

Thanks

Re: Question about accessories and excessive battery draw.

It'll be close. Probably won't be a problem when you're moving, but it might be too much draw at idle. You should probably install a voltmeter to monitor your electrical system if you add the Gerbings. If it voltage drops too low, you can turn off some of your gear or accessories before you get a dead battery.
