| 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? What's up folks, while looking for a 954, I ran across an ad for a 01 RC selling for right at $4k. The guy states that it's been raced, wheelied, etc... but is in fine running order with a clear title.
Question, what would be a fair price to offer? I don't SEE any signs of abuse but just talking to him leads me to think that stuff might start breaking down. |

| Re: 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? Well... I just bought an '02 w/ 8.5k for $5500. Are you aware of the differences between the SP1 and SP2? Do you wrench? If you are ok with the SP1 specs and you do your own work, I would say go for it. If you aren't able to handle any possible engine work, I would keep looking. |

If the bike's been ridden hard, odds are it may have not been broken in correctly the first few miles and thus gaskets/other engine stuff will likely have issues. If you're cool with diagnosing/changing parts on your own then it's a good buy!
Make sure the clutch/brakes/tires are solid though cuz that can be a quick hit on your wallet. |

| Re: 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? Depends. What kind of rash, how much and where? As far as the mileage I have seen alot more on the RC's. One of the most reliable motors ever made by Honda. But ask lots of ?'s about the maintenance history. Ask if he serviced it himself or had it done at a reputable shop. |

| Re: 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? ask questions definately look at what it needs right away or even near future because needed parts just mean spending more money, dont worry so much about the mileage and more about service history damage etc! |

| Re: 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? If you are thinking that you can get a deal and then replace the rashed parts you are thinking in the wrong direction. It is WAY expensive to replace body parts, so much so that it is worth the extra money to wait and buy one in good condition. If you have questions about the maintenance, you probably have them for good reason. I bought mine in about the same situation for about the same money-but I was confident about the maintenance and upkeep. Sometimes I wish I had waited, but overall I'm still happy, after all it is still a 51. |

| Re: 01 rc51, 55k miles, little rash $4k? I have seen RC's with far less miles and in better condition that you stated for right about the same amount of money. The milage is not as important as condition and has the bike been maintained properly.
I would take a nice condition well maintained high milage bike over a hammered pooply maintained low milage bike any day.
I would say keep looking, you will find a nice one. |
