Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

I recently installed an undertail on my 01 RC, and the instructions weren't very clear on how to hook up the tail lights. I'm sure there's plenty of experience with this type of thing on this forum, so I'd be greatfull to get a few pointers

cheers

ahhgg! Thanks itschad73 but it seems the lights don't work, even after following further instructions from the manufacturer. What a pain.

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

it's by Bestem USA, bought on ebay.
I've managed to figure it out, just a little more tweeking.
It's such a visual improvement to finally cut that ugly stock fender out and replace it with a painted undertail.

don't forget that if they are led lights then they will only work with the right polarity.

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

If you order a RC51 wiring kit for a PCIII it comes with factory connectors for $20. Clip them off and wire them to your tails. then the untertail will plug into your factory harness.

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

Hi PabloLavin
I did finally figure it out.

You have 4 color coded wires, each with a green ground wire on the bike including
light blue = left turn signal
orange = right turn signal
black/brown = running light
green yellow = brake light
green = ground

and four color coded wires on the undertail.
black = ground
blue = running
red = brake
yellow = turn signal

Solder all four green ground wires from the bike with the two black ground wires from the undertail together and shrink wrap, or at least cover with electrical tape. (this was the part I got stuck on)

then match up the corresponding turn, running, and brake wires.

cheers
Shay

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

I have the same kind of undertail on my sp2 and although I think it looks better than all others I've seen, the quality is very poor. This is glass from a chopper gun, meaning it is about 75-80% cheap resin, and some chopped glass which makes it very flimsy, soft, and heavy. The leds defeat the purpose of reducing weight as they have some heavy lenses glued on with Elmer's wood glue and unless you strip and clean they will fall off. I used clear silicone to reglue the parts of the light and the lights on the inside sealing the gap, you must pay attention to the alignment of the lights and turn signals so they are where you want them to be.
Nobody will ever notice a brake light or turn signal out of those leds.
Then there was the issue of the ECU/Battery holder area, if you totally eliminate the fender I doubt this thing will be able to last long. Since my fender was messed up from the previous owner I cut the front part that holds the battery and ecu off and tried to fit the new part underneath it, so the area is sealed better from rain/dust etc. Then there is no place to attach all those relays and wiring in the back, you have to improvise. I painted the top side of the piece flat black so I don;t have to look at the ugly part of chopped glass.
A nice design and a very poor execution, I'm tempted to make a mold an make my own out of fabric, but I'd like to find better LEDs for it before I do so.

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

I have Hotbodies undertail wich i´m installing first off it wasn´t a perfect fit and needed some grinding and fitting, the directions arent clear on how much of the stock tail you should cut off so you can properly fasten the icu and relays. But the blinkers are the worst you either need a new blinker relay or some kind of inhibitors on the wiring wich is what i´m doing and hopefully will finish tonight.
PS if someone can send me pics of the front end wire routing it would be great
Thanks JoiS

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

Fixed the blinker problem today it needs a inhibitor thats 6,8 ohm - 20 watts
wired in and it blinks at normal speeed no need to put in another relay and alot cheaper to.

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

It came with the bike wich i bought crashed last year and am rebuilding,
the guy who installed the tail made some mods too the front end and made a real mess of it all. All stock plugs were cut off in the tail and everything wery badly fitted.As for the front he connected together the high and low beam to have both lights lit But i got a new ram air tube installed and am trying to figure out the correct wire routing.

I have the same taillight and am stuck. Since you figured it out with the same exact taillight as me could you please tell me which wires hook up to which other wires? What I really need is which wires on the stock harness (green, black/brown, green/yellow) hook up to which wires on the tailight (red, yellow, black)

Re: Need tip for wiring tail light and blinkers

Hi All,
I'm a newbie here, but just picked up my 929. I installed a Bestem undertail, and just had a question about the LED pattern. My running lights only seem to light up the inside half of each cirle light, and the brake lights just seem to make those same LEDs brighter. The turn signal will light up the outside half of the appropriate circle light. Is this the same as you guys are seeing from the Bestem undertail? I was hoping/expecting that the entire circle would be lit with just the running lights, and the brake lights would just make it twice as bright. Please let me know your experience with this undertail.
