| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... Yeh... its funny how some people say "Your bike weighs 20kgs more than mine!!" Umm... yeh... but I weigh around 40kgs lighter than you! So that puts the grand total of me and my bike weighing 20kgs lighter than them! hahahahahaa
And yeh... my RC does drink its fuel... but thats only because it demands to be ridden hard at every opportunity! And I do Uncomfortable? *shrugs* not for me I think its ok... Iv sat on an R6 and that was alot less comfortable!! I can ride my RC for 5 hours in one day and it doesnt bother me |

Remember it's the rider not the bike that makes you fast. | Did you even read the rest of my post? I'm in favor of the RC. Maybe "slower" should be in quotes. It is "slower." We all know that 90% of riders are only "bench racing." They sit around with their buddies saying my bike this, and your bike that. The RC doesn't win any bench races, except when SheepofBlue is doing the racing, but I digress. He asked I gave him the facts, straight up comparison. We all know it's the rider that makes the difference. But in this case he is the rider of both bikes. He wanted to know what the difference would be for him. He didn't say, "which is faster, an RC with Nicky Hayden on it, or me with an I4." The RC is slower, heavier, and more uncomfortable than almost any of the comparable I4's. If your RC is at 430 lbs wet then you have made some serious mods. Stock they are about 465 lbs. It all comes down to what the guy is looking for in a bike. I'm looking at 848's right now. It's "slower" than a lot of other bikes that cost a lot less, but I like it, and that's what is important.

Well I agree that it is slower in bench racing (which I think is like those rednecks who can point out everything that the Daytona 500 winner did wrong) but I am a big (read: "lard arse") guy and when I get on it hard on my RC51 I can feel it trying to buck me off. Slow? maybe in comparison, but as Slickwill said, "I prefer the RC51". Very unique and very very fun to ride. If I could afford it, I would own both, but I can't afford the divorce |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... id say its all personal preference, everyone had a different taste... just like some like blondes and others brunettes, some like tata's others like @ss's... personally i love my rc, everything about it is "just right" for me. ya i4's are easier to throw around and all that but i have 0 complaints about the rc... the best thing about it id have to say is the torque curve, its kinda nice having that in almost any rpm... so id say go out there, ride a couple bikes, and buy the one that stands out the most.
and for all u guys defending your i4's... almost every rider i talk to loves rc51's, and most of them tell me that its their dream bike. so that alone speaks for itself... you might not like it now but one day you will |

But I still think the RC51 is just as fast on the street or track as any bike you just have to have your bike setup right and have confidence in it. |

Remember you can shed two lead weights. Ooops I mean pipes. In track plastic I think I may be slightly below 430 now with my rims. Also I could lose a couple more by swapping to different battery. That without swapping harnesses or anything exotic. Now getting down to 410 or below is a whole nother story

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... well i personally think the RC51 SP1 SP2 is F****ing awesome!
My next bike is going to be an old ish 900 blade, but Im think when i have the money i will buy a SP2 because they are really cool.
I've only got a 400 I4 at the moment and i get people come up to me and say oh my mates cbr400 is faster than yours because its a sportsbike, (but ive never raced a cbr400 so i wouldn't know if its true). what a load of BS! my bike is just as cool as theirs, it may be slower, but mine is +2 on the rear sprocket and has a full scorpion system and it has an amazingly unique sound, thats better than their crappy mates bike. .I hate people like that, afterall a bike has to impress you and the ladies afterall ,not the bloke down the road.
I was on my 400 once picking my mate up after he passed his CBT, and i thought my bike sounds lush, and a firestorm pulled up next to us and OMG me and my mate both wet ourselfs with excitement , it has twin art cans on it and has such a roar it was unbeleiveable, and that isnt even a real RC51. My mate wanted 1 for christmas (he didnt get it)
the only problem with the sp2 now is they don't make it with may colour schemes, only 1 scheme, thats boring. But just imagine if they do make the RC61. corrr 1200 V2 id have one!
Either bike would be fun to ride, and to be honest even though i like blades, i agree with everyone that the sp2 is very more manly and has such a deep throbbing note too. makes me feel 4 years younger - im 19

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I have beat guys on I4 1000cc bikes on my CBR400RR and FZR400 neither had much more than 60HP but they were some of the funest bikes I have ever ridden. The tighter the road the better a little bike will do and a V-twin with less power and more weight makes it easier to ride as it's not as twitchy and less likely to flip or high side you. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I think it is not as comfortable as say a cbr or gsxr 1000. Only due to the factory seat. It is a plank with fabric. But, I think that is easily solved with say a Corbin or some other after market seat of your liking. I keep telling myself I'm going to order a Corbin, but haven't as of yet.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but if anyone has a Corbin on a rc51 could you please leave some input. This might help him make up his mind to get one or not. Not just Corbins in general (I know they are comfy) just wandering if the design for the 51 is comfy as well.
My vote is a YES get a RC51!! 51's are an awsome bike.
And always remember when you are riding.....SLOW IS SMOOTH...AND SMOOTH IS FAST |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I slapped a Corbin seat on my SP2 and it made a world of difference. No more numb ass cheeks after a 4 hour ride. The new seat has pretty much converted the RC into a sport touring bike now. You won't regret the upgrade. It is an RC essential. |

I just wanted to make sure before I plopped down 300 bucks for a corbin. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I am planning on buying a GSXR1000 in 2 years time to replace my SP2... but if the rumors of the RC61 (the 1200 VTwin) is to believed and they do make one.. then THAT will be the bike I will be getting
I raced a GSXR1000 the other day... I left him behind in initial acceleration, it was only after I hit 200kmph that he started to gain on me and then by the time I hit 260kmph he was way ahead... but think about it... how many straights are there like that? If it was all twisties.. I would have had him!
I have ridden several types of bikes and the SP2/RC51 is the one I have had the most fun on.
At the end of the day... do you want a crotch rocket or a bike thats going to be more fun to ride? I know which one I would rather have Thats why I have the SP2/RC51
And if anyone wants to know why I am planning on getting a GSXR1000 is because my g/f is a pain and complains how uncomfortable the pillion seat of the SP2 is. So its either change my bike or my g/f... hmm.. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... That is always an idea.... but she is a shorty... so it would have to be a small bike... and then she wouldnt be able to keep up unless I rode slower... meaning I would have alot less fun on my RC anyway...
Besides... I did actually mention that to her... she says "Oh yeh!! I would love a scooter of my own!!" hmm... a scooter eh? Yeh... I can see THAT happening!!! An RC and a scooter out for a ride together... hmmm... nope.. don't think so! I would be in 1st gear constantly! The RC drinks enough fuel as it is! hahaha |
