| going to switch from I4 to RC51.... well I recently crashed my 06 CBR1000RR. And I think I am going to go for RC51. I like the idea of having power through out the power band and not having to rev my engine up to 9k to have power. Only thing is I have never rode a twin before. Can you guys explain the difference to me. Im sure some of you have riden I4's before. Thanks and I hope to be posting pix here soon once I have all my insurance stuff taken care of. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... The RC will be slower, heavier, use way more gas, and be more uncomfortable. It will also have way more style, sound way better, and have a lot more character. It will have a slightly more usable powerband due to a broad amount of torque but will require dropping a tooth in front to make up for a ridiculously tall first gear.

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... Because you can go into a corner in the wrong gear and it will still try to pull your arms out of socket upon exit. If you drop a tooth on the front and add 2 to the rear it will be almost impossible to keep the front wheel down under hard acceleration. And more girls look at you because your bike sounds better than an I4. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... As said above basically hahahahaha
I haven't dropped a tooth on the front and added 2 on the rear yet.. but plan to
My mate has a 2007 Fireblade and I have a 2004 SP2/RC51. His bike is faster than my bike, theres no doubt about that!! And my bike drinks petrol compared to his! His bike is a lot more comfortable than mine too!! But im gettin a Corbin seat to fix that hehehehehe
BUT when we park up outside a bar during a ride out... my bike gets more attention. My bike sounds better and is alot less common than the fireblade so stands out more. Its a reliable bike too!! Iv only had mine around 6 months but I have had NO issues with its reliability in the slightest! Fires up first time and never stalls on me and so far nothing has gone wrong with it, except when a car hit into the side of my and broke my turn signal off! but the indicator still worked!!! hahahaha
Fun to ride? HELL YEH!!!!! Iv ridden a few bikes... and every time I twist the throttle a grin spreads right across my face Give one a test ride and see what you think |

My friend rides a 2006 R1 and I stay with him on breakfast runs. From stand still I'm a bit faster. The RC is a lot more masculine too. All the new bikes looks small and feels like a 400 and these days they're the same size as the 400's. The RC is a good looking big bike, more fun to ride and has allot more appeal/style. Chicks dig it! |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... 4 Cylinders all the way. They sound and go like an F1 car instead of a lawnmower. I ride with several Ducatis and it drives you nuts after a while like Harleys and they don't have any more torque because they are very short stroke, unlike a Harley. I do roll ons with my buddy's S4Rs Monster as low as 4000 rpm and he doesn't pull me and the Blade is far below its power band at 4000 but so is the Duc. I know this won't be popular in this forum but that's my feelings. |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I agree with SP2Man... the RC is a very masculine bike!
A friend of mine rides a Triumph Daytona 675. She sat on my RC and she really didn't look comfortable on it!! If she had been a bit bigger and butcher I would have let her have a shot on my RC... but there was no way I was gonna let her try my RC!! It was WAY too heavy for her and too high for her feet to touch the ground.
Most modern sports bikes are streamlined and very... plasticy... the RC is a beast... like the Hayabusa! Much more manly
I frequently go out for rides with people on brand new sports 600s, GSXR750s and sports 1000s and they hardly leave me lagging behind them!
But that aside... when we pull up outside bars... my bike gets more attention than the others, I think mainly due to the fact I am the only one on an RC! Theres several Fireblades, several R1s, several Ninjas etc etc etc... but my bike stands out! Its got a more throaty growl than the others and I love it Its just a shame they discontinued it... if they made a brand new one with a bit more power... it would be my next bike without a doubt!!!
I raced a brand new R1 from the lights... I had problems keeping up but he didn't leave me behind like you may think.
Roll ons? *shrugs* no big deal... so its slightly faster than an SP2 *shrugs* it also weighs considerably less.. when im out with my mates for a ride.. their R1s tend to be ignored! Yeh a few people will look at it and nod approvingly but they won't stop to look at it.. they stop and ask me about my bike though
Ducati? LMFAO they ARE lawnmowers!!! I sold mine and would never have another Ducati!!

Many times and they are Ok. Not an RC though but the VTR 1000. Gutless pig. Ducatis I have rode 900SS, 916, 996, Monster 900, Monster S4 and S4Rs and they are fine but it's just a preference man. Also if you remember Honda only made the RC to capitalize on the rules like Ducati allowing for 1000cc twins to compete with the 750 fours. After the rule change they were gone.
Regardless of how many pistons you have going up and down, it's all good. |

I'm well aware of all the differences in V twins. If I were to get a twin it would likely be an RC51 because it's a Honda although it is showing its age now. |

"It sounds cool" is hardly a legitimate argument for the RC51 to be better than an I4.
Harley guys think big, slow, loud bikes are cool too. I guess if you're into that sort of thing.
Why get the lighter, faster, more comfortable bike? |

| Re: going to switch from I4 to RC51.... I part-exed my 06 1000RR for an SP2 last June. Love the SP2 whereas I found the Blade a bit too much, Riding position is similar, but the SP2 puts a bit more weight on your wrists, and SP2 fuelling lurch below 3500 revs makes it difficult in town, but I love the smooth and manageable power delivery and noise,(Akrapovics) brakes are great, strong, progressive with a soft initial bite, unlike the Blade. My sons rode the SP2 after their 600 fours and hated the fuelling lurch, but I just ride around that problem now. |

I think at some point you look for more in your bike than the fastest quarter mile, or the lightest dry weight. It's obviously still very important, but I'm willing to sacrifice a few pony's and few pounds for a bike that has some character. The RC bikes are a special class from Honda and I'd like to think that the owners of them have a bit more pride in this machine. I know I do.

I agree whole heartedly! I have had a wide variety of bikes including: - Yamaha RD400 (70's 2 stroke twin cafe racer)
- 87 Honda VFR 700
- 89 Kawi Ninja 900
- 98 Kawi ZX11
- 93 Kawi EX500
- 05 RC51
And ridden all of the other sportbikes (Gixer's, CBR's, etc), but I have to say I love the unique feel and style of the RC51. One thing I really love is that the RC line has always been considered true "superbikes" in the same sense that any Lamborghini is a "Supercar". They not only are a race proven and purpose built machine, but they move into collectors status quite quickly due to their limited production runs. The last street RC30 I saw for sale in good condition sold for $30k USD, and the last RC45 I saw for sale sold for $23k USD. That is pretty good considering the RC30's sold new for around $11k USD.
Don't get me wrong, if I were to have two bikes, the other would most likely be an I4 so that I could enjoy the best of both worlds, but I only have one arse so I have the one I PREFER.
CHEERS

The flipside to that comment is this:
Unless you are a hardcore racer, being faster is hardly a reason to say the I4's are better than an RC51.
If you're paying the bills by racing, then maybe you need that extra little bit of power to bring home the bacon. But the rest of us ride sportbikes for two reasons:
1) It's fun as hell
2) Chicks dig them
Obiously, like anyone else, I agree that "faster is always better". But for 90% of the riders out there, our riding skills are below the capability of our bikes.
I've been riding since before I could walk, and I still admit that I can't push my bike to it's full potential... (Even on the track) If I could do that, I'd be paying MY bills through racing.
So, under the first point, there's something to be said about bragging rights. When your buddies all nail the throttle, it's nice to be in the front of the pack. It's an ego boost, for sure. | |
