Will they fit?

I'm looking for some wheels for my RC51 sp1. I know someone whos got CBR 929RR wheels. They look like the right size, but he wont pull them unless I pay for them. I dont know if they fit though. I dont want to buy them to find out they dont fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think you would need custom spacers and I'm not 100% sure on the rotor offset. SP2 wheels are around 3lbs lighter a set than the SP1 wheels and will make the bike handel better and it's a lot easier to swap them.

I've noticed that the RC wheels are unique design not shared with any other RR or Honda models which makes me wonder:
How good are the SP2 wheels comparing to current 1000RR (07 and 08)?

How much benefit should be expected from after market ones vs. the stock?

Well almost all stock wheels are cast aluminum and most aftermarket wheels are forged aluminum which is 1.8 times stronger and usually lighter. For every ounce of weight you take off the wheels it's around 25lbs weight savings at 100mph. Also the way the wheel is built has a lot to do with the MOI or moment of inertia, you can have 2 wheels the same weight and the one that has more weight on the center and less towards the outside edge of the wheel will still turn in faster and perform better.

Re: Will they fit?

I'm on a bit of a tight budget. I'd like to be able to use the ones off this CBR 929RR if easily adaptable(noobie proof). I'm rebuilding my bike and am only replacing things that are not salvagable. The wheels are a mess and have to be replaced. If I had access to some SP1 or SP2 wheels at a reasonable price, I'd jump on it. At this point, I'm not commited to the 929RR wheels, but I'm getting very anxious to get wheels on my bike! Thanks for all your help!

Re: Will they fit?

Look on Speedzilla or e-bay I had seen a few sets of SP2 wheels for $500.00 or less.

Re: Will they fit?

$500 is a little more than I want to spend right now. I'm in the middle of purchasing a house(for her) and rebuilding this bike(for me). Because "all" my cash flow is commited to the preliminaries of purchasing a first house, I'm pinching food stamps(j/k) to get parts for my bike. This is my first bike. I bought it wrecked and I'm rebuilding it. Now I'm at the point were I need to get it going down the road to see how well it runs and rides. These 929 wheels are just a decision away. I just need someone to say, "yes they fit ....whether they need mod" or " no, they wont fit unless you rig beyond the value of correct wheels."

Thanks for your patience

Re: Will they fit?

My brother just put a set of Carrozarria wheels on his ZX6rr and cant stop raving about them. But if 500 is too much then the 1700 he spent is probably out of the question, but either that or a slipper clutch will be my next upgrade.

Re: Will they fit?

Yeah, $1700 is a bit much right now. I've seen some nice A/M wheels, just need to get my bike streetable right now though. Some day, I'll be able to put some nice wheels on, some day.......

Re: Will they fit?

I have heard some serious issues with folks putting other wheels on their bikes in the way of "I had to find some different spacers and went through 3 different ones till i found the right one" or "I thought it was right, but then it broke when I was in a turn and my bike is trashed". So, my RC51 brother, be careful when selecting wheels, I have seen stock wheels on eBay for good prices, and they look great. You can even make them look different by just painting, or using wheel stripes to change the look. Remember that you change the gyroscopic properties when you use a wheel of a different rotating mass and if it is more weight that is bad.

Re: Will they fit?

Yes, thanks for your help and concern. I have found a pair of wheels with tires off of a 2000 RC51 at a reasonable price. I wasnt extremely excited about putting incorrect wheels on(929RR), I just need to get this thing streetable so I can address any other issues. I will wait until I can afford these RC51 wheels I found.
Thanks, Chum
