Re: 2001 RC51 Head Lights Help!

In most if my bikes I have put in the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. They make a difference and give a nice white light rather than the yellow look that most lights have. They will cost a bit more than a normal bulb and, as always, be careful you don't touch the bulb with your fingers or any greasy rags when you put it in. Check your owners manual or go to the dealer to find out what type of bulb it takes (can't remember) and then you can probably get them at auto zone or advance auto parts.

Re: 2001 RC51 Head Lights Help!

the best bulbs are these:

Osram / Sylvania Hyper - 65W - H7 Bulb*-*Cyclenutz.com

it's an H7 base with an H9 burner. 50% more lumens, literally. and only uses up 10 more watts

comparison between stock and this one, low beam

yellowish is oem bulb of course

Does anybody know how to wire the head lights so you can have 2 low beams and 2 high beams?

It takes a lot of custom fab work and is not worth it. If you want the brighest lights you can get you need 6000K HID kit.

Not really

RIGOR WROTE:
You can't have a real "Lowbeam" on the right headlight, due to the multidirectional bucket behind the bulb, but you can have something close.

Here's what you can do....

You can, however, have a dual headlight set up, but it involves replacing your high beam bulb, (H7) with an H4 bulb, and that requires cutting the mounting flange diameter down to fit in the H7 port, (H4 is larger) and ditching the adapter. (factory has an H7 bulb adapted to an H4 factory plug) There's an open port in the factory plug, and you'll need that later.

Then, you tap into the low beam hot wire, (left side) and run a wire to the high beam bulb, (right) but attach it to the low beam tab. (H4 has 3 tabs: neg, low beam and high beam) This puts both headlights on, on low beam, with a slightly lower directional beam path.

Your right headlight highbeam is the same highbeam wire that you used before. You may have to move them in the plug to make sure they're correct.

This will give you 2 headlights on low beam, and both headlights on on highbeam, but now your right headlight is a dual filement bulb, and will shine slightly lower when it was just a low beam.
And another option.....

don't go chopping up your headlights and harnesses for no reason

The only problem with that is that the reflector in the right side is not designed to focus the light where the low beam does. Anyone who does this and thinks that they have more output is kidding themselves.

Right...thats discussed in Rigors post. I would like to do the dual set up because of visability for other drivers. I know its not going to help me see better at night but during the day I want to be seen better and the dual light set up would aid in this.

I understand why you want better visibility during the day, but I don't see how another low beam would help that. The easiest solution to that is to run the highbeam all day. That's what I do. It's much brighter and gets people's attention. I haven't had any cops hassle me either. I guess that would depend on where you live though.

Just from an inspection of the highbeam, it hardly sends any light into the area that the low beam does. I really can't see how this would help anybody see you better than your regular low beam does?

I'm not sure if it's discussed in the other post or not, but another issue with putting the H4 bulb into the H7 housing is that the filament might be in a different place. The housings are designed to reflect the light from a predetermined place, if you move that (by using a bulb not intended for that housing) you will get glare and less-than-desirable lighting. That is one of the common issues with using super cheap-o bulbs (that aren't dot approved) and installing cheap HID kits (also not dot approved). Hid kits might help with daylight visibility, but at night they produce tons of glare and are very distracting to other drivers, especially oncoming drivers. That kind of negates any benifits IMO. I would rather not have oncoming traffic be blinded by my lights.

The best solution is to install a set of OEM hid projectors from an acura or lexus, but that is an expensive option, even if you know what you are doing. Done right, it's the best option though.

Re: 2001 RC51 Head Lights Help!

I see where your going with that. When I say better visability I am talking on the right side as you sit on your bike. There really is no front light on that side except for the blinker runing light. I thought about doing the eyebrow conversion and I think that might accomplish what I am going for.
