VTR1000 SP2 (2006) new to forum

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have recently purchased a 2006 SP2 in black. I'm wanting to fit a power commander and new cans, possibly ARROW cans. Any advise ?

welcome to the board.. go with what cans you want.. i've heard alot of different pipes on the rc... jardine or two brothers sound the best, but go with what you want.. don't do what everyone else is doing.. that's why i'm putting a hindle on mine.. it's different, and still a damn good pipe..

My preference is Akrapovic (on mine) also look at having your front forks reworked. I had mine done (Thermosman Suspension) and the difference is amazing.

thanks sheepofblue, to date i've left my bikes standard but really want o hear the SP2 with less restricted cans and see what the difference alternative cans make to power delivery etc.

ANY aftermarket cans sound great on the RC51! Good quality (fit, finish, sealing, etc.) is what you want to look for. Akrapovic's and Sato's are top of the line, but you pay for them. Arata's, Arrows are very good, Yoshimura's are probably the best quality/price compromize, and the Jardines have come a LOOOOOONG way in the last few years. All of the above would be pipes you would not be disspointed with. I'm a 'build quality' freak and was sold on the Sato's when I first saw them. I have Ti, round, low's on my bike and it sounds like a muscle car with open headers parked in the tall grass...just muffled enough but still loud! If you want REALLY loud, get the sato's with the 'GP' cans, but you have been warned...L O U D !!! EX: Take the mufflers off your RC and fire it up, GP cans sound liked that, without some of the hi crackle.

If you look at all of the dyno testing of pipes on the RC51 the Sato low mounts make the best gains, have a year warranty and you can get any part of the exhaust system seperatly if you damage something.

Hi, just joined 5 mins ago

I've got a black SP2 also and had blueflame oval dual port pipes put on. These sound superb (and that's with the baffles in!!)

Good luck with the bike - I'm sure it'll sound great with any of the cans mentioned.

Cheers,

Hedge

Hi Hedge,

Did you have any problems fitting the cans? Have you fitted a power commander too ?

Regards,

Andy

Re: VTR1000 SP2 (2006) new to forum

Hi Andy.

I had the cans fitted before the bike was delivered. However, I am fairly confident in saying that it is a pretty simple job (I took off / re-fitted the end can on my speed triple. Bit of sealant and away you go - and I am absolutely not technical!!) Always be worth checking with whoever you buy from that ALL necessary nuts bolts spacers etc come with the cans.

Haven't got a power commander - might go that way in future. Bike runs fine, especially when moving above 40 mph. It is a bit choppy below that / at low revs (it's renowned for that anyway) but nothing dreadful - slip the clutch as necessary and it's ok, although I may be more used to the "clunkiness" than some as most of my bikes have been big(ish) v-twins.

Hope this helps - I'm no mechanic and have not done many miles on it yet (cr*p weather etc), but I'm sure you'll find out you made a good choice of bike!!

Cheers,

Andrew.

Ps - I bought my bike from Dobles in Surrey - if you go for Blueflame (or other for that matter I guess), you could always ask to speak to the guy that fitted my cans for any advice / pitfalls.
