Front brake question... So I went out for a ride today and when I got back, I was rolling the bike with the engine off and heard what I thought to be a dragging front brake. Is this possible with the floating rotors and even more so, what causes it? I could just be hearing things but I wanted to make sure...

Re: Front brake question... it's typical. i can't explain it technically but it has to do with the pressure from the pistons.. they aren't forced back out so you'll get a rubbing sound. i'm sure someone else will give you a better description.

Re: Front brake question... it depends on how warm your brakes are bro. usually when they heat up they tend to expand a little and rub. its definently nothing to worry about

Re: Front brake question... Disk brakes to not have return spings like drum brake assemblies. When the brakes are applied it simply squeezes the brake pads against the rotors and when the pressure is released they naturally drag slightly. Not a problem at all.

Re: Front brake question... All of my bikes make that little bit of noise whenever the front wheel is rolling. Some more than others, but still they all have it.

Re: Front brake question... Caliper have rubber seals that act as springs like in grums... pistons rely on ruber seals to pull the piston back the rubber seals also there to stop the brake fluid to leak. You got to work out whether the sound is coming through out the whole rotation of the tyre ie 360 degries which would mean that discs are hot and expanded but if the noise is there for only a 1/4 or a 1/3 of full rotation then i would say that your discs might be slightly warped... Im no expert with the bikes but im an ex car mechanic and the bace principal is the same...
