| Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? I recently responded to an ad for an SP2 (VIN # JH2SC45344M400594) for sale. The ad said the bike was sold in the US. and then shipped to the UK where it was too expensive to register because of it's history in the US. The owner is wanting to sell it to an American and ship it to the US. Does this sound like a load of BS to anyone else? Is this bike US legal? |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? To me it sounds rather suspicious. And it would have to be REAL cheap to make the transportation cost acceptable. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? ... gotta be careful about overseas buying and selling, there's a lot of scammers out there who'll gladly take your money and leave you with nothing in return. personally I think your best bet, if you're looking for such a bike, is to shop locally, in the U.S. of A., at least that way you may be able to inspect the machine and/or at least talk to it's current owner and if whatever you decide to buy it would be a lot easier to take care of rather than haggling with somebody from another country who'll probably just ignore you after thay get what they want. I've bought from Europe before a few times and I've been burned twiice, so just be VERY careful and keep shopping around, something always comes along so trust your gut and your instincts, that's why GOD gave 'em to ya. Take care and good luck to you. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? I'm in the UK and I sure wouldn't be doing this deal in reverse if you get what I mean. Sounds right dodgy to me - don't go for it. There must be bikes more local to you?
Cheers,
Hedge. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? It's a guaranteed scam. I have found the same "deal" three other times almost exactly word for word.
I've come across it twice on Craigslist and once on eBay. It will always be something that is priced way below what it should be and the guy will always want to ship. I messed with the last guy for awhile. When he told me the car was in Canada I told him I'd drive up to see it the next weekend. He told me that I'd have to send him $1000 by Western Union first so that he "would know I was serious." What part of driving to CANADA doesn't seem serious. It was super obvious that the Canada one was a scam since right now I know quite a few Canadians who have come to America to buy a car and even with the extra hassel and taxes it works out cheaper than buying in Canada. So there was no way that I was going to buy his story that it was "too expensive to import and therefore have to let it go for cheap."
And on another one the bike (a 600RR) was supposed to been in Oregon when the pictures were taken and there was desert and palm trees in the background, yet the guy said he'd taken a job in the UK and had planned to bring the bike with him but found out it was too expensive to import, etc.

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? before Ebay started cracking down on the scammers, you could look on ebay on a weekly basis and find year old bikes for around $3000.00. I responded to one of these and got a very similar story. One day I counted 11 different sport bikes that were being used as bait. The bike was in Germany, I told him I would have my friend, who was in Germany at the time, come and inpect the bike. I never heard from him again. If you are posting this thread, you already have a gut feeling about it. Follow your gut. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? If tyhe bike was sold in the US then shipped there, chances are that the bike is US legal. But like everyone in the above mention, there are also good chances that this is a scam and you SHOULDN'T DO IT! |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? Thanks all. It sounds as if you are all setting me straight. I think I am going to continue to lead this guy on a bit to see what else he'll give me, and then give all the info to the cops. Does Interpol have a dept for this sort of thing? |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? It probably won't do much good. The cops are busy with real crimes, like making sure we all have the proper headlight, and a light on our tag. They are far too busy to help prevent actual crimes. You need to go ahead and give this man your money. Then they can come take a report and still do nothing. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? My buddy fell for this sort of scam in reverse. Had a bike for sale, found a "buyer" from out of state who contacted him online and told him to cash a third-party check for more than the sale amount and he'd come pick up the bike and the difference later on. My buddy deposited the check and it cleared, and he even went and spent some of the money, only to find out the morning of meeting with the guy that the check was a fake and he was now a few hundred overdrawn at the bank. |

I sold one of my beloved x11's on ebay to a buyer in Brazil. Buyer reported that he never recieved the helmet. Paypal took the money from me, gave it back to him. A month later USPS confirmed delivery. Til this day paypal has not resolved anything on my end. No emails, no phone calls, NADA. Put me in the hole because i xferred more money into paypal for another purchase right after the xaction, just to have'em snatch it from me. Its only scammer protection, not seller. |

| Re: Legal or Not Legal, that is the question? Maybe the lesson from all this is don't deal with someone unless you know/trust them or have met them in person?
I know when I sold the Yosh slip-ons to Jkopflys for his RC-51 when the tracking number I gave him didn't come up in UPS's system right away he was worried I might have been scamming him too. |

Point being, this scam is so simple..... All I did was Google the VIN # and it's for sale in a legit looking EBay auction.
If you are going to get scammed, make them work for it a little bit... All you had to do was copy the VIN into Google or EBay, the same bike can't be in two countries at once. |
