| Anybody interested in swapping new rc51 speedo? i just bought a new speedo from factory honda for my 05 rc51. i just rebuilt it and tried to get the bike registered in florida. my title claims that the bike has 4500 miles on it, but my new speedo has only 200 miles on it. the dmv said i would need certain paperwork in order to register it in florida because of the new speedometer. the old speedo i guess crushed in a million pieces, so im trying to possibly see if anyone was interested in a swap with a new speedo for a speedo with mileage around 4500 miles on it. or if anyone knows where i can find this paperwork at i would appreciate it. thanks guys |

| Re: Anybody interested in swapping new rc51 speedo? Not the best solution, but there are several ways to get some miles on it. The first, put it in gear and let it run on a stand. Ot do the same but with a speedo healer and set it so it shows more miles than what is has run for. if you are good with electronics, then you could fool the gauge into thinking the bike is running when it is not.
Talk to your dealer as they should be able to help with the papers. Gauge clusters get replaced and it needs to be noted. When you go sell the bike, you would need the papers as the mileage could be off. I'm surprised the manufacturers/dealers don't set it before it leaves. |

I have a GSXR that I bought with a similar situation - Speedo stolen but recorded milage on slip. He can add or substract miles accordingly. He may be able to work with the RC51 guage - not sure. Good luck |

I don't know how easy that would be to do anyway, considering the signal from the speed sensor is a 0-12-0v square wave (alternates between 0 and 12v).
There's one from a 2003 on eBay right now ( eBay Motors: Honda RC51 Gauges Speedo RC 51 NO RESERVE! Tach MINT (item 200220636376 end time May-07-08 19:43:52 PDT)) that has 4700 miles. I'm sure you could unload yours on eBay, too. |
