Just got an RC-51

And it's in not so good shape. - has been stunted for last 5 years or so. the guys nickname is 'crash"

Upon inspection- however- frame, swing arm and all structural stuff is well within tolerances. Motor runs good- needs clutch cover case to run again.

Bad news is- needs all plastics, including rear cowls and plastics and the tank itself and new seats.

Also needs new rims.

I got it cheap- so I will be returning it's former Glory.

Since I am here- I believe Colin Edwards raced these bikes, as did Nickey Hayden- and I understand they won quite a few races. Anyone have pics of the bikes- I would like to build a replica since I have to replace plastics anyway!

Can you tell me the best places to start looking at parts- engine parts and fork seals first actually-

Then IT IS ON- I plan on making this bike as modded as possible, race replica style- it will be my street AND track bike.

I have a custom bike building shop in Anchorage, Alaska, so, once I get some research done on this bike- I can finish it- if I have to, I can even build it a new Chrome moly frame and swing arm- but I would prefer not too!

It is a 2001 SP1, BTW.

Did these bikes go by the name of Fireblades too?

Re: Just got an RC-51

One place to check is RC51.org lots of tech info. Also since the moron trashed the front I would consider sending it off for revalving (made a HUGE difference on mine) Dan Kyle is out your way and very good.

Re: Just got an RC-51

You should search ebay for parts, you already know that. If not you should check out speedzilla.com they always got a bunch of Rc owners on there selling trading buying parts. And of course all the usefull info.

X2 on Dan Kyle. He's the best .

Well, this is odd- I belong to probably 50 motorcycle boards- and I can't figure out how to PM you- you can e-mail me direct if you wish at wldthing67@hotmail.com if you wish- there are SEVERAL parts I need ASAP to have this bike go down the road. If I can get it running safe and reliable- plastics or no, I will ride it this summer!

I really, really want to make this a Colin Edwards or Nickey Hayden replica-

anyone got any pics of Colin Edwards or Nickey Hayden's RCs?

You aren't allowed to PM until you've been a member for 14 days. It's an anti-SPAM measure.
