| Re: GAS mileage?????? Im not positive on this. Arent the vtwins more gas guzzlers then say a inline 1000cc?
I know the power is mroe a rush on the inlines and they feel like 2 strokes up top and the v twins have the grunt the inlines dont down low.
how would a rc51 compare to a inline 1000cc
I want an rc, its always been my fav bike since the rc30, rc35 and rc45.
This is my prelimanary research to see if its feasible to buy one. with gas prices the way they are im trying to buy a bike to save on fuel economy. Sort of a way to buy a bike for free by saving on gas. its not just for money efficiency obviously. I enjoy riding but any way that will help lessen my gas bill is a plus in my book.
I have a 2001 audi s4 which is stage 3 and i get about 3-350 to a tank and i have to use super. so each refill is like 50-60bux
can you put regular in a rc51? |

My '02 RC is bare stock and I have ranged from low-20's to high-30's in mpg. As for comparing to an inline-4, you are going to get about the same average fuel efficiency, your range is just going to be narrower(high-20's to low-30's). For comparison, my other bike is a 600 inline and I consistently get in the low 30's no matter how hard I ride.
I wouldn't recommend putting 87 in an RC. Mine pings sometimes even with 92, depending on where I fill up from. |

| Re: GAS mileage?????? from full to emtpy.... 140 miles if you have a power commander, how do i know ... cuz it turned off on me completely and ran out of gas. i have ran regular (87) up to premium (92) without a problem, but i guess that all depends on the bike you have, some bikes dont like certain gas |

| Re: GAS mileage?????? When mapped like it should be, the RC gets poor gas mileage compared to an inline 4 of the same displacement. The RC likes to run rich. I averaged about 28 MPG on mine over 10k miles. Twins indeed burn a little more fuel than inlines.
It's common knowledge that MPG on the RC isn't that great comparitively. |

| Re: GAS mileage?????? Yeah, everyone that I've known with RC's seemed to get less mileage than the similar 1000cc inlines. My 600 gets 43-45. One ride report puts the new 848 at 51mpg which seems amazingly high for a twin.

| Re: GAS mileage?????? I've gotten low 40's pretty consistently. That's approx 130mi before the light comes on and there's still a gallon left in the tank. I'm not riding it like a racebike but then again i don't ride it like a cruiser. I was concerned before I bought it that it was going to get as horrible gas mileage as everyone says it does, but i am actually quite pleased with the mileage it gets. I mean, it's no 55-60mpg but the bike is fun enough to get 10mpg. lol
It runs fine on 87 or 92. I run 92 because it's only like another 30 cents a tank and i feel better running what they recommend. |

| Re: GAS mileage?????? With my SP1 I get about 160kms before the let comes on, and I've ridden until 200kms before filling up, but I think that is probably cutting it pretty close. Even though mine has a Power Commander, I think it's still running a bit rich so I might get it remapped this summer. |

can you put regular in a rc51? | You can't compare the two as the 1000RR has at leats 5 years newer technology, where the RC51 was built with 90's technology.
The RC51 can be thirsty if you decide to play and it doesn't have as much down low as you think it does. It likes the mid-range and likes to keep pulling.
If you want to save money of fuel, then you should look at a scooter. Any big-bore bike is going to be pathetic, although the new RR can do quite well. |

I am a big guy, with an 05 SP2 and I can go 100 miles before my light comes on. It is mapped with a Dan Kyle map, PCIII/ USB, and has Sato Banzais on it. I would compare your map to stock and see where the huge increases are in your map. Have you considered having it dyno tuned? a good 4 gas dyno tuning will get you the most power without wasting fuel. They can be pricey (around 4-500 bucks) but it is an incredible deal when you consider you can get a 10% increase just from a simple tune. Good luck

| Re: GAS mileage?????? I get about 37mpg average. The most I've ever gotten was 44mpg, the worst was 32.
If you are really concerned with gas mileage, then get a kawasaki 250r, they get 55-60 all day long. Or just go buy a scooter. You also seem like you are going to use the bike for commuting, some don't really recommend the Rc-51 for that kind of duty.
You might want to actually go ride one and see if you think you're going to be able to ride it for long periods of time. Some people think that the bike is really uncomfortable, I don't. I can go 500 miles in a day pretty easily. Yeah, I'm sore, but that will happen on anything after 500 miles. I am 6feet tall, and if I was any taller, I might not like the seating position. The bars are low, the seat is high (and VERY hard) and the foot-pegs are a little high. Other than the hard seat, the position feels exactly the same as my '02 R1 (which I got 45mpg average btw).
You mind wind up with a bike you don't like, and then wind up spending more $$$ trying to turn it into something it's not (a VFR). Another thing to consider is your commute. Is it alot of stop and go? Do you live in the southwest? The RC doesn't like to sit still, and will get very hot very fast (sp2's have better cooling, two electric fans vs one on the sp1). Do you have lots of city driving? That is never fun on any sportbike, unless you only want to impress the jail-bait. Get a motard or scooter for that.
I'm not trying to steer you away from an RC, but it definately makes for a better weekend canyon carver than an weekday commuter.
Also: I will never get the logic behind buying a bike (esp a hardcore sportbike) purely for the gas mileage. You are always going to wind up spending way way way more money on gear/extras for the bike than you will ever save in gas. It's an addiction that has us all by the balls and will never stop. If you want 45mpg, go buy an old crx for $1500, keep it tuned up, and drive the crap out of it (crx's don't need power commanders, sato's, rearsets, gel grips, windscreens, undertails, flushmounts, corbin seats, magnesium wheels, and $300 in tires every 6k miles)
Edit: Buy the stupid CRX, and the RC, you'll be happy

| Re: GAS mileage?????? RC-51 and fuel economy shouldn't be discussed in the same thread.
My light used to come on around 80 or 90 miles and I risked 120 once before deciding to fill up.
Bikes are designed for different purposes. The RC was built for the track.
Newer technology isn't always better. Granted, it's not a liter bike, but my 1995 VFR 750 gets 38+ MPG. |

Just kidding.
That's amazing from an RC, although I hope the map's not too lean. |

| Re: GAS mileage?????? best i've done is right at 40. As a commuter, it gets about 36-37. Riding it as it wants I get about 20-25. I have went about 70 miles using about 4 gallons numerous times. The Gap does not promote efficiency, especially since it is 1-2 gears only all 11 miles. With new sprockets, I can now hit 3d twice each way. |
