| ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one I found a nicky hayden edition 04 with 650 miles!!! two brothers HIGH (no rear foot pegs for passengers)- kind of sux exhaust, PC, but the bike was dropped. the guy who owns it, bought it from the guy who wrecked it and it has a clear title. Says it was a light drop he has sourced all the plastics for the hayden edition except the tank, but he says the tank just has some scuffs. he wants 6500
ive built alot of bikes and know if something is bent. I have to go check this bike out and make sure, the guy says its straight. He keeps talkign about hw the hayden edition is rare,Is it really rare????? frankly I want to give it a custom paint job same wings possibly all red with sivler wings etc not sure yet. so the decals etc dont matter to me, other then that is there anything diff on the hayden edition? i noticd form pics the shocks are a diff color? anything else????
2nd bike is a 2002 with 2600 miles akropovich low exhaust, PC, gas tank bra, motorcycle cover everything else is stock. 6800(will prolly work on that price)
3rd bike is a 2003 with 6500 miles micron low exhaust, pc, guy is from brazil
wants 8000 he sounds desperate though so im checking out the bike tomorrow he insisted i check it out. I think i could possibly get this bike form a steal. not sure though.
so as you can tell all bikes are sp2's im done looking at sp1's ill end up being pissed. there too many mods to the sp2's for me to consider a sp1 and when honda makes refinements its better to go with them then get the older version. they knew to change the parts for reasons.
so how do you all feel about buying a dropped bike. (i will probably look at it tomorrow.... and the 03 as well. the 02 I have to check out but its about 4 hours away.... the guy seems nice though. |

Dropped bike? Lots of variables so I'd have to see it.

Dropped bike? Lots of variables so I'd have to see it. | the only thing the dropped bike has going for it is the low miles ,silver frame and silver swinger. one thing that I COULD do with the other bikes but at least i dont have to dissassemble the hayden to get it to be silver. chem dip the frame and spray clear over the aluminum.
how well do these bikes hold on if there dropped?
since this guy does this as a way to make money on the side im wondering.
is it possible he could have changed the ecu and speedo with another rc51 he got to part out with low miles and stuck that speedo ecu in there? |

and the money on the side.... well i would think about really lowballing that guy since hes in it for the proffit i'm sure he's got plenty of cussion.

yes it has his replica signature on the tank. and every 04 was a Hayden edition. so its not rare at all.

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one Number 2 is the way I'd go. The difference between 650 miles and 2600 miles is almost nothing. The '51 is known as a solid bike. I'd take a clean one with 2600 over a dropped one with 650.
FYI - my local dealer just sold a 0 miles '04 Hayden fresh out of the crate for $8900. By the time you pay $6500 and then redo everything you'd be paying almost that much.

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one where are u located? there is a guy on speedzilla.com with an '04 650mi asking a similar price. he's in NY. bike was downed, lots of damage...
same guy? if its not, its extremely coincidental. he's got it for 5500 w/o farings and if u haven't seen it there is one picture. |

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one First one:
screw the '04, it's not worth it getting into something like that. Maybe for about $2500 less. There are too many possible problems with that, especially if you plan on keep this bike forever. I sold my last bike ('02R1) simply because of the fact that I bought it wrecked (it was bad!), put it back together, and every time that I rode it, I found some other little thing I needed to fix or replace. Now I am a total perfectionist, so little things tend to bother me to no end. Got tired of fixing it and sold it while I was still ahead (made $800 after riding it for a full season)
It is anybody's guess wether or not the guy swapped out the speedo/ecu to get the low mileage. Even if he didn't: seriously? 650 miles on an '04, most bikes with that low of mileage aren't taken care of very well. Either it was wrecked and sat for a while until this guy bought it, or this guy bought it a long time ago and just took forever to sell/fix it. People who have bikes with low miles that they are trying to "preserve" or at least keep nice, usually don't wreck them, and when they do, they have insurance, the guy who wrecked this probably did not (it still has the clean title)
IF you are going to be fine with finding and fixing little things for the whole time that you own it,
IF you are fine with the fact that you (if you are an honest man) will have to explain that it was wrecked to any potential buyers (if you ever decide to sell it),
IF you are willing to trade a non-wrecked bike for a downed one with 2000 less miles (doesn't make much sense to me)
IF you don't mind buying a bike from a guy who is a professional "re construction artist". When I was shopping around for an RC, I found a really nice one, and the guy started talking about how he got such a good deal on his R1 because he rebuilt one and traded for the one that he has now and that he buys downed bikes all the time to fix them up and sell them, "but this one's never been down", I walked away and found one with less miles, better aftermarket add-ons, more extra crap, and $300 more, totally worth it.
If you don't mind all that, then go ahead and get it. For me: too many unknowns and "if"s, walk away.
The third one:
Over priced, unless he drops his price way below the second one, walk away.
Second one:
Sounds like the best deal. Find out if the akro's are a full system or a slip-on (the full systems are like $1900, if that means anything to you) Make sure that you pull the tank bra off to see if it's hiding anything. Find out who/where did the install and tuning of the pipe/PC.
I assume that all of these have a service history of some sort? And don't buy the first one you look at, at least not until you've gone and looked at a few others |

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one well fellas I rode the $8k one, guy was soo nice. I had a feeling he would let me ride it, so its pretty much the only reason i went to see his bike. I knew he wasnt coming down in price(he doesnt really need to sell it).
I had mentioned to him not to let some kid off the street ride his bike. He coudl tell i knew about bikes because of my knowledge etc. I was very glad to finally ride one.
1st YOU GUYS ARE ALL RIGHT the wrist pain is severe. however the bike is positioned for attack mode. I will def get raised clip ons to fix this. I have a passion for this bike so wrist pain will not stop me from buying one. it just looks too damn good.
MILLER, your absolutely right about the wrecked hayden, I am still going to check it out though. the other bike has a full akropovich exhaust. Ill def check under the tank for damage. they really seem like nice people so I will probably end up getting that one. it also comes with the stock exhaust. so what i might do is swap back the stock exhaust and ride the bike like that until i get a feel for it(maybe not) buts its good to know i have a 2nd exhaust
any bike i get im def getting frame sliders to protect it probably a new under pan for lights etc...
thansk for the help, im gonna check out this 04 hayden and see how good or bad it is. |

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one I'd say leave all three of them. I bought my 04 w/ 5k miles last year for 5500. Never dropped. Some kids promptly went and dumped it over for me two weeks later, but that was off the stand, not moving. Unless you need it, hold out. There's plenty of better deals out there. Check out some prices from shipping companies, expand your search area. Craigslist is awesome. That's my 2 cents.

I am planning to buy one this winter/when the riding season is near over, hoping to get a better deal. I have been watching craigslist like a hawk and the cheapest people want to let any sp-1 or sp-2 for is roughly 6000. |

What part of CO do you reside in? I live in Ft.C. I've been eyeing a 02 rc51 with 10k miles: sato exhaust, power commander, Kyle racing forks, and heli bars listed to sell in cycle trader for $5100

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one I'm down in the springs, Fort Carson area. I bought mine mid-season, July 1 as a matter of fact. Probably didn't hurt that the wifey was due for their first baby in a couple weeks, but then, I can't think of any other reason to quit.

| Re: ok i found 3 rc51's now it comes down to picking one Get the 02. It's the best looking of the bunch in my jaded opinion. Low ball the guy into the 5k range. Stay away from the downed bike, just too many unknowns and the Hayden replica just isn't that rare.
Install some Heli bars/replace the seat/change the gearing/set your suspension and go have some fun...... |
