| Re: a couple of questions I have yet to see one that wouldn't do 70 mph. you should have no problem keeping up with that. as for the actual question you are asking, you are comparing apples to oranges on these two types of bikes. The 2 different engine configurations will give you two totally different feels. The RC51 has gobs and gobs of torque almost from the instant you release the clutch. The 954/1000 make their power in a whole different manner, so their power curves are a little higher in the RPM range. The thing is, on the street, very little of this matters. You have to find the bike that fits your body type and your riding style. Unless you spend a lot of time on the track, all this horse power talk is pointless. For LEGAL street riding, event he ninja 250 will "keep up". Get the bike you want, not the bike that will beat your friends bike. I have seen more accidents because someone was trying to keep up with someone that was simply a better rider than themself. The best improvement you can make to any bike is your own riding skill and ability. Take your safety course and go to track days every chance you get. What you learn there will make your bike faster than any of the mods you have listed. And properly applied, they will make sure you come home every time you leave the house. |

| Re: a couple of questions i didn't mean how you whether you could stand up with the bike. i mean which bike is comfortable for you to ride. the RC has a rep of being a little cramped for taller riders. The 954 and 1000 have different seating positions. You don't wanna buy a bike and hate riding it because your back and wrists kill you after about a half an hour. |

| Re: a couple of questions to answer the question you are asking though, I got about 12 HP with a full pipe, filter, PCIII and tune on my 954. I have heard of much higher gains though. I have seen sheets with as much as 18 to 20 HP gains. One thing to remember about dyno numbers though is that a lot of them are inconsistent. You can run 3 different runs with your bike on a dyno and get 3 different numbers without changing anything in between. |

| Re: a couple of questions Another thing that you need to consider is that the "horse power" that a certain bike has is only at a certain peak rpm. I don't know any hard numbers, but I do know that the RC will make it's peak power at a lower rpm than the inline fours that you have listed, thus you will actually be using more of it's power and more often.
Paying ~$1000 for pipes, PC, and tuning, to get 15 hp that you will most likely never notice/hardly use, just seems like a waste to me. But I guess that your friends have those too. If you are trying to keep up with them on the street, that pretty much means that you are "racing" on public roads or in the eyes of the law you are. Prepare to get out the KY, you'll need it if you get caught, keep that crap on the track.
In the twisties, good rider on an RC will walk all over a bad one on 1000rr or anyother literbike. For that matter, a good rider on a 600 will do the same.
The RC and the 1000rr are completely different bikes designed for different things at different times, there is no comparison. IMO the RC wins hands down (the 1000rr's are fugly, and that does matter to me) IF you are looking at just horsepower, then get the 1000rr, and you'll have the bragging rights about the tons of horsepower you aren't ever going to use. |

Do you like the down the straight speed, or the out of the corner speed? The Ducati's and The RC51 will own in the corners and twisties because of the grunt it has down low. So much so that you can be almost two gears off and still pull out strong. The IL4's rev much higher and can get to higher top speeds in the straights.
My buddies busa' cant even come close in the corners or off the line, but on a long straight line he overtakes me and passes. SO it really matters where you are trying to do get the most out of a bike. GOOD LUCK BRO!
