Hi there, new member here....

Just acquired an '01 RC51 and quickly learning about the 'running hot' thing, especially here in Singapore..... A quick scroll through this forum I've seen a couple of mentions of after-market radiators/mods that improve operating temps - can anyone fill me in on what/how?

Also, wondering what the easiest (cheapest) way is to get my hands on a workshop manual, preferably electronic version (pdf) - I want to give this beast a full going over before I take the pilgrimage to Sepang for a little track fanging...

where I live it gets to 112 in the summer. and with the stock side radiators what I have seen is that on the highway at 70mph it will run at 175-190 degrees which is actually perfect. But in traffic it will then heat up to 218 when the switch turns the fan on. Then it cools down to 197 and the fan goes back off.

I believe the cooling system is adequate, the problem is that the fan comes on too late. You can replace your coolant with a newer product such as "engine ice" which will help dramatically.

But the only real fix is to install a temp switch with a lower trip temperature. I have found one, and have ordered it, once I install it and verify it is working correctly I will tell everyone where to get one.

it turns the fan on at 195, then back off at 185

you can find the pdf ones burnt to cd's and sold on eBay. I have a copy saved on my computer, I might be able to email it to you?

engine ice is a great choice,you can also run distiled water&water wetter.just make sure you flush all the old coolant out of your bike,(very important).


but what im really waiting for is that low temp sensore.im going to eat that up like a plate of rice and beans.

I have a set of thorsten's radiator scoop's and a fan switch that will turn on the fan manually,I have never had any problem's with overheating.By the way it's an SP-2 with the right side fan removed.
