Hi all, I just bought a 2000 rc 51 from my uncle, he lives in pennsylvaniaand I just moved to Cali from Wisconsin, I went to the local dmv to register my new ride and no dice. They said that it was missing the federal sticker to verify the vin #. So they told me that I need to take it to CHP, to prove its not stolen. My boss said avoid CHP at all costs because they rivit a plate on the frame and it looks bad.

first thing I have to ask though, how many miles are on the bike? Ca state law says that no vehicle can be brought into the state with less than 7500 miles on the odometer.


I have done the CHP thing twice, and I had a Yamaha RD400 registered that didnt have the sticker, and all they did was verify the frame number against the stolen list. I have not see the plate thingy.

Did they give you the name of the CHP officer to call and make the appointment? Just call them and ask them what they are going to do.

It has 16k and they didnt give me a name they just said It had to be taken to CHP to verify that its not stollen. Thanks alot for your help! I will call on monday and make an appointment.

I bought a 2000 with a salvage title and the DMV told me to I needed a Brake/headlight inspection. They told me to go to the CHP because it's a bike and when I did an officer said they did no such inspection. He told me to go to an authorized/certified place in which one just happened to be a local parts/accessories place I always go to. The DMV sucks! Good luck bro!

My bike has been "impounded" by CHP until this exact thing can be verified.

I took my bike to DMV so I could get a plate for it, but since it was missing the FIN sticker because of a polished frame, I had to take it to CHP. Two weeks later 6/18, I show up to my CHP appointment. 45minutes later, he comes back with this news...he was cool about it, but whatever....

Basically, my '94RR has a '95 motor in it that so far does not have any paperwork to verify it isn't stolen, so for the last two days, it's been at the CHP office waiting for word from the system that there isn't a bike with a motor missing somewhere. So until then, I'm bikeless. I asked how long it could take until I'm out riding again. He said "it could be anywhere from a day to months. MONTHS!!!???

Dude, there best not be a damn hot motor in this thing. I'll post pics of the bike, but it's a SSSA, '94 900 RR. It's hot.

I called the guy I bought it from, and he says that he gave me all the paperwork that goes with the bike. Now, he also said he was going to call the guy he bought it from. OMG, there's a 3rd guy? You think guy #3 knows where said p/w is located?

I'll keep you guys posted, as this could be an ongoing shituation.
